Ascot for the wife's birthday...
Discussion
Thinking of organising a day out at Ascot for the King George VI weekend in July for my OH's birthday - she likes to dress up and put on a frock / nice hat.
Have not been before so question is will I regret booking the Queen Anne enclosure? Will it be like living in an episode of TOWIE? Other options are the King Edward or Winning Post enclosures, both of which are much more expensive.

Ascot has definitely attracted the 'wanna be' and is now far more Towie'fied, If you want something special that hasn't yet appeared on the undesirables rader, try Henley Regatta, went as family couple of summers ago for my sons birthday. Did the whole corporate thing, thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely go again, added bonus was finding a company that were not part of a larger organisation that had just bought tables in corporate facilities. message me for details if you're interested. Another option is Wimbledon as this also hasn't attracted the masses of the great unwashed

The bold bit added might remove any confusion when searching, as there are a few lesser regattas there in the summer too.The Royal Regatta is also a nice thing to do on the cheap too, if you fancy a bit of a walk, picnic, and sitting in the sun by the river, weather permitting.
It's easy enough to park for free in the residential areas about a 15 minute walk from the road bridge, and it's about an hour to the start from there if it's busy. Plenty of nice places to sit on the way.

I havent been for years, but have friends that go regularly and always go in the Queen Anne Enclosure. Not as posh as Royal Enclosure but does avoid some of the idiots. You will still get the Towie wannabe's but that will always happen.Have not been before so question is will I regret booking the Queen Anne enclosure? Will it be like living in an episode of TOWIE? Maybe look to go earlier in the week and avoid the weekend might be better.

Not been to Ascot, but the chavs were gravitating towards Goodwood on my last outing there (several years ago).
Surely the dates are also important to coincide with the birthday?!
Thanks for the comments.Surely the dates are also important to coincide with the birthday?!
Birthday is 26th July so either would work ok - only thing with Goodwood is the journey for us would add on 2 hours v Ascot. We could stay I suppose but then I have to arrange overnight child-care etc...Ascot is doable in a day.
Henley Regatta - hadn't thought of that although I have a passing interest in horses but very little in rowing.
Been to Henley a couple of times, friend gets tickets for the Stewards enclosure. It's a bit boring to be honest. Have a drink, go for a wander, have another drink. A nice day if it's sunny and you're not driving but dull all the same. There's only so much promenading one can do. Fillies are quality though.
I have no idea about the rowing, whose winning or not. At least at the races you can have a bet or two so whilst not understanding much about the Gee Gees you have a decent reason to watch and care what's happening.
