So, IMO, this is clearly a scam - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173308626294

It is way too cheap, the seller has only sold old clothes in the past, and it seems like it is unlimited.

Yet, when I looked at this yesterday, and reported it to eBay, it was saying 60 people had purchased, it is now at 170.

In theory, eBay will refund you if paid via Paypal, but I couldn't be bothered to go through that hassle. Yes, its only £15, but still. Do all of the people who bought this really think it is legit?

Free postage too. i've just tried to order but they don't take debit cards and I don't use Paypal so no go. Would have been worth a punt just to find out.

You’ve reported it for being too cheap?? That’s not a crime you know

It may be perfectly legit and they may have a source of units from elsewhere hence being able to undercut a lot of other suppliers - maybe it was bankrupt stock bought at auction??

Ordered out of curiosity and if it doesn’t arrive it’ll be a simple charge back

It's obviously a hijacked account - he's also got headsets listed far too cheap.

Naïve question, but if payment is made via PayPal what is the buyer's risk (apart from Jeff Bezos and GCHQ knowing every aspect of your domestic life) if the goods don't turn up?

I have heard that this is how it goes, not sure if true, but it's basically it's used as a loan to make money:

Someone sets something up like that, although it's usually higher priced rare items going cheap.
They make a load of money instantly and loan it out to the fellow council dwellers at high interest rates.
Because the process of PP or Ebay getting the money back takes so long the lenders have plenty of time to get back the money with interest before PP get it.

Sounds a bit far fetched.

I seen Philips Hue starter kits for £30 a couple of weeks ago. Usually sell for £60+.
200 of them had sold by a low feedback account similar to the linked one.
Within a few hours the item had been removed by eBay.

I also assumed it is a hijacked account. I am surprised the listing is still there though.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised there are so many people willing to chance something that is far too good to be true.

Beggars belief how many people out there don’t follow the ‘too good to be true’ principle.
