So - Who here enjoys a spot of geocaching?

For the ones that aren't - it's basically a worldwide treasure hunt with boxes, bags, log books etc. planted/hidden in a lot of random places across the globe. Some 'normal' places and others with brilliant views, historical interest or a challenge etc.. You use an app/GPS and sign to say you found them.

Me and my missus got into it a couple of years ago and it's taken us to a lot of places that we never would have enjoyed or even known about without it being for the caches there.

We've found a lot around North Wales and had an afternoon when we stopped on a roadtrip around Ireland last year.

So does anyone else take part/play? any recommendations for places to go geocaching?

We did it many years ago but haven't done anything for a long time. It's great though, gives a reason to go for a nice walk! I was surprised how many there are out there when we first started- there's even one in a sign post in our road! I bet there's millions more now.

Have you downloaded the app?

It's just that - a nice reason to go for walks in places that you'd never go otherwise!
My missus has downloaded the app and she pays £10 (i think) per year for the subscription to get the premium caches - there really are loads more !!

Some of the puzzle ones are good, too - Theres one near us where you need a dinghy to get to it in the middle of a lake!

I used to do it with my kids, I started a thread years ago, I think quite a few PHers did it.

The apps gone a bit odd now with paid subscriptions for maps and stuff.

Here we go all aboard the way back machine to 2010.

Funny that as I've just downloaded the app, thought the kids might enjoy it. Thought it was supposed to be free but the subscription model doesn't seem that expensive and I guess someone has to maintain all this stuff.

Seems to have died out, like fidget spinners. Just a fad it appears.
