Hi folks,
I’m thinking of taking up vaping -non nicotine. I’m looking for a traditional pipe style such as the e-puffer.
I saw a review where the tester actually tried 2 one real and the other a clone. (Apparently there’s something like 200 factories in China making clones ), anyway the tester actually thought the clone was better engineered.
I’ve looked on eBay and there’s lots of the buggers for sale from different parts of China, or should I go for something else ?
Ref e-liquids what’s your favourite non nicotine brand and flavour.
Thanks and I will appreciate your informed comments to help guide me 👍🏻

Probably best asking in this thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

There's also a link to the previous, Volume 1, thread on the first post that might also be helpful.

No I don’t smoke, that’s why I don’t want nicotine juices. It’s just something I fancy doing

My personal suspicion is that some horrific respiratory disorders will be uncovered.

I vaped a while. I don't trust some Chinese factory to give a st about the toxins I might be breathing in and it really screwed with my vocal chords.

I second not starting.

I guess your going to try it anyway!

What have you seen/fancied already? Post some links and we can advise from there.

Can’t help much on what’s the best e-pipe available now, but 100% stay away from anything mechanical (commonly called a mech mod) read about all these vaping accidents in the news? It’s usually a mechanical mod! They don’t have any inbuilt protection and can easily cause an accident if you don’t understand battery safety & ohms law or new to vaping and haven’t a clue what your doing, plus a lot of the kits I’ve seen come with really crappy batteries. It’s basically a coil/battery/switch. Easy to use but super easy to get wrong and hurt yourself.

Just don’t get one for your first e-pipe.

So look for a regulated device (they’ve got an inbuilt chip/circuit board/display screen) these offer some protection against short circuits, over heating etc etc (basically cuts down the risk of the battery exploding, but can still happen if the batteries not in tip top condition or ran too hard....when these things blow they really blow and cause massive injuries) so it’s worth reading up on e-cig battery safety. It’s really important, they’re not a toy, lots of vaping accidents in the news now and 99% of the time it’s user error on a mech mod or some dhead carrying batteries loose in his pocket. With a regulated device you can adjust the watts or volts (how much power you want) Some do temperature control but I’d leave that untill you get a basic understanding of how everything works.

It doesn’t matter if it’s an e-cig or E-pipe they all work roughly the same no matter what shape/size they come in and use different size batteries. Invest in some good batteries from a reputable vendor. I only use Fogstar, 18650.co and Ecolox. Most e-pipes use 18350 batteries and these sit in the pipe bowl, then you either press down on a switch above the bowl, or a smal button or some are auto firing so work like a traditional pipe...no switch/button you just suck and you get vapour. Not a fan of these auto firing ones and I’ve had a few go off in my pocket and nearly catch fire.

Important: Batteries.
Get good ones, they’re not expensive so don’t scrimp on batteries.

Take a look on a Fogstar who sells some excellent (probably the best available) 18350’s from Vapcell which is a Chinese battery re-wrap company (they buy from big name companies like Sanyo/Samsung etc and use their own brand battery wraps. These are 18350’s are 10A batteries (how many amps you can safely run them at) and 1100mah (mah- battery run time) these are rewrapped Aspire cells. I don’t think you’ll get any better, I think they’re around £5 each.

And get a decent battery case....don’t carry them loose in your pocket. If these come into contact with your loose change or keys....BOOM.

Battery charger. I’d invest in a decent charger from Xtar or Efest. Fogstar also sell these. You can charge some e-cigs via USB but it’s really not recomended. And usually the chargers that come with a pipe kit are gash. And don’t ever let it charge over night or unnatended. They can over heat and catch fire....especially th cheapo ones.

Harping on a bit about battery safety bit it’s mega important....

As for juice, yes you can get zero nic, most are 10ml bottles around £4.50/£5 each. Much cheaper to get something called ‘shortfills’ these are usually 50 or 100ml bottles, they don’t come with any nicotine though you have to add a small bottle to it. Try Manabush for some excellent tobacco based eliquid, Powwow is a nice one to try, they sell these in zero nic shortfills so your good to go. They sell a load of different ones on there, some with a hint of banana/coconut/desert flavours.

A lot of juices these days are more catered for sub ohming and are pretty thick. Depending on what pipe you buy/tank it comes with it might struggle with thicker juices and burn your wicking material.

Juices come in different ratios, made up of VG/PG and your flavourings (plus the nicotine if you wanted it) so a 50/50 juice (50%VG & 50%PG) will be a lot thinner than a 80/20 juice. The higher the VG the bigger clouds (vapour) it’ll produce but will also mute the flavour a bit, full of max VG and it really mutes the flavour but fogs the room out!! Missis goes ape st if I’m vaping high VG indoors! The higher the PG the more flavour you get. 50/50 is a nice compromise between flavour & vapour production.

Long post sorry. Main thing is battery safety, don’t get cheap unbranded ones, just pay the extra couple quid and get the Vapcells I mentioned and you’ll be fine if the pipe is an 18350?

And post a few links up so we can guide you to the right e-pipe and you don’t buy a mech mod for your first e-cig!! (Trust me....just don’t risk it)

Thanks for that information, I’d heard about the battery issue but you have really helped me understand just how dangerous they can be which has cleared up my thinking.
I’ll post links to the ones I like the look of once I’m more certain.
Much obliged

I don’t want a complex pipe messing around with this and that, modding etc I just want a traditional looking pipe.
I’m not looking for cloud of vape, just a once a day finish the day with a vape.
Thanks for your comments about not starting, I have some health issues already and I’m actually looking to use the pipe to reduce/ replace some medications hence why I don’t want nicotine.
All the info about pipes and liquids was really good it helped me understand the topic more.
Your point about automatic pipes is well made but I only intend to use it occasionally and at home.
As for eliquids I take the points made about the make up and constituents of them, hence asking for advice about brands, producers etc.
I’ve looked at this
https://epuffer.co.uk/#/product/29801
But I’d like to find some others just to enjoy so I’ll look at some of the ones mentioned.
If it makes any difference, my better half thinks it’s a crazy idea too. Let’s see how it goes,
Thanks again
Barrie

In terms of liquid - flavours can be very subjective. I would suggest trying a few at a local vape shop - most should have 0% Nicotine available ( its much easier to get hold of these days - due to regulations introduced last year , there are restrictions on the size of bottles that can be sold if they have nicotine in them. The industry solution is to sell "short-fills" with 0% nic, alongside "nic-shots" to add the nicotine back in. You just wouldn't need the shot.

The pipe design is purely asthetic - the atomiser you use will affect they type of draw , and the flavour you get from a given juice.

I wouldn’t buy anything just yet, take a look at these below before your spend $160+ and might not like it!

My step dads got a couple of each, both use cartomisers which is really old tech now, I wasnt that impressed but he’s happy to use them. They’re messy as hell to refill but if you want the traditional pipe look there’s not much out there.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/3024/10004230/21...

And he’s got a couple of these

https://www.fasttech.com/products/3024/10004230/21...

All have broken after a few months use but they’re a cheap way to see if you do like it.

Another to look at is this, it’s a mechanical mod but the kit now comes with a small circuit board (chip) that goes between the battery and mod so offeres some protection from short circuit and over heating. I think they included this as a lot have failed. The chargers crap though and batteries aren’t the best. I’d budget an extra £30-40 for a decent charger and 2-4 of the Vapcell 18350’s From fogstar. If you wait till Friday he’s always got a Fogstar Friday code on FB it’s usually 15 or 20% off.

https://mobile.cvapor.com/kamry-epipe-k1000-mod.ht...

I bought him one as a back up pipe until he got something decent. The good thing with this is you can change the tank for a better one if you like it (supplied tank/coil is crap) so all you have to do is unscrew the stem (it’s just a fancy 510 drip tip) unscrew the tank, keep the collar which is a 510 adapter and fit a better tank. Something like an Aspire Nautilus Mini would be good or Kanger Aeotank or Protank 3. Probably better out there now but all those three where decent tanks a couple years ago.....especially the Nautilus Mini which is still my fave clearomiser. Hard to beat that one!

Also if you buy from China, at checkout pick UK Epacket if available, it’s around 7-10 days delivery, 2nd quickest for me has always been China Post.

Do you smoke at the moment?
I will reiterate the question:

DO YOU Smoke at the moment or are you going to vape to look cool? I saw a fesking 13 year old vaping as it was cool this week the bloody idiot.

I vaped for 2 years to help with me giving up smoking and going 24 to 0 nic to a point when I thought 0 nic I am puffing fruity air.

So I stopped vaping but your question sounds like you want to vape but do not currently smoke, So why would you take to a vape?

Well I’m not a 13 year old trying to look cool, so I suppose that’s something. I think it’s about relaxation, some people have a glass of wine or a scotch.
That’s why an e pipe not an e-cigarette, and why it’s non nicotine rather than nicotine.
There’s also a possible use medically as I have had back pain for 40 years and I hate taking painkillers, muscle relaxants and the rest of those things, but that’s an aside and different e-liquids and not the main part of my thought process.
if I was talking about taking up using nicotine in any form I’d agree with you totally.
I suppose we could go on the whisky thread and tell people never to try it or to stop but I’m not sure how long that would last though lol.
I do appreciate you’re obviously honest and very well meant concern,
Slainte,
Barrie
