What am I missing?

You arrive in a car and drop a patient off or pick a patient up and leave.

Maybe it's me but, if you drop someone off at the hospital, you are not allowed to get out of your car, or you will be viewed as parked without a permit/ticket and will be fined

‘Vehicles failing to comply with the above contravention will be issued with a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) of £80’

That doesn’t make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me.

I fail to see the issue.

Agreed. "The above" is not a contravention. It's like whoever last ordered the sign didn't understand English and was paraphrasing someone who did. So probably a middle manager who heard an underling and thought it sounded like a good word. hehe

What's so hard?

You drive in, you stop, Granny gets out the passenger seat, you drive off. No problem.
You drive in, you stop, you get out the driver's seat... Problem.

Gotcha. Yes, the use of the word 'contravention' is indeed incorrect.

It's still pretty bloody obvious what it means though.

Erm, maybe read the whole notice and tell me it makes sense?

IANAL

How do you read the small print to enter into a contract - or whatever the legal bit is - if you cant get out of the car?

Yep, like most, I read what it meant rather than what it actually says.

You should park there and then challenge the PCN as invalid smile

The faux-legalese might trip overitself in the attempt to sound official, resulting in mild bks, but the intent is very clear.

I don’t disagree with either of you - if they had put something like ‘instruction’ instead of ‘contravention’ the it would have made perfect sense.

But I do wonder whether there would be room to challenge any PCN based upon that wording (not that I have any intention of finding out!)

Failing to comply with a contravention (breaking the law) gets a ticket, so it’s saying if you don’t break the law and do as the sign says at the top ( drop off only) you’re be liable to a ticket

Yeah, you have to comply with a contravention. Doesn't make sense.

Also you would need to get out of the car to read the fine print wink

Someone stick some tape over the word 'contravention' then we'll all be able to sleep soundly tonight.
