Over the last few years I've become quite close to one of my neighbours. Always chatting about the garden, the weather and what have you. We've even bumped into each other down the local and had a pint together.

Anyway, today he corrected me that his name is in fact Clive and not Grahame.

To make matters worse, the wife knew his name was Clive but let me call him Grahame as she thought it was hilarious.

It was quite awkward when he told me as I more often than not always greet him with "Hello Gray!". It's been at least 2.5 years!!!!

Brilliant rofl

I wonder how many times he’s stopped himself correcting you...

Oh that's awkward. I've had it from the other way round. He called me something completely different but I was too embarrassed for him to correct

Me too - spent years as "Martin" for the old boy next door, even tried sorting it but he was always in "output not input" mode, so he didn't get it until my wife asked him if he'd like "my actual name" to help him with something...

I’ve been letting a guy at work call me ‘Matt’ for 6 years as I was too polite to correct him at the start and now it’s WAY too far in to do so.

Probably goes without saying, but my name isn’t Matt.

There's a lovely bloke at work whom everyone has known as 'Bob' for a good 30 years or more. I discovered a couple of years back that whilst his name is Robert, no one outside of work calls him Bob and he doesn't really like the name. I guess that started in a similar way and he left it far too long to try to correct it smile

The pensioner next door always called my wife Gloria. Her name is Julia.
I now call her Gloria occasionally just for sts and giggles. It’s great to be British, just embrace it. Keep calling him by the wrong name, it’s the only option.

That's funny OP.

Whilst it's not on the scale of a completely different name, the MIL's best friend has called me the wrong name ever since I've known her; 20 odd years, she even writes it in our Christmas card, I've corrected her in the past, as has the MIL but we've now given up, I'm Alex, she calls me Alec.

I’ve been taking myself and my son to the same hairdresser for nearly 15 years.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always referred to the owner/main man as Leo quite happily chatting away about all sorts of st as you do.

Him - ‘Why do you call me Leo’ he asked earlier this year, ‘you’ve always called me Leo’

Me- It’s because you own the shop and it’s called ‘Leo’s’

Him - ‘But my name is Karl, I bought it off a guy called Leo’

Me - Ah...... getmecoat

I'd been at my current workplace about a year and the site (of about 70 people) director gave a presentation. I asked a query and he called me Steam. I thought I'd not correct him then and there although colleagues already were smirking.
There is a chap called Steam, I'd not think we were easily confused. I corrected the director after the meet and he was appropriately mortified.

Of course afterwards Steam and I greet each other as Jet & Steam. I thought it would get old but after 6 years we're still doing it.
We're available for parties, functions, weddings & wakes. Every one a Maserati etc

I'd say it is not as bad to busting one out to dwarf porn, forgetting to close the curtains and your neighbour coming around to borrow something.

That would be enough to make you move house.
