Bit of a strange one.

I have a cousin who has lost both her parents and her brother, so is essentially alone in the world. She has added me as her next of kin whilst moving into a rented house.

It got me thinking, if the worst comes to the worst, and she pops her clogs, if she hasn't left specific instructions in her will as to where her assets go, where do they end up?

Quite peculiar as we have seen eachother maybe twice in the last twenty years as not a close family, both geographically and otherwise!

I hope I'm not reading between the lines incorrectly.....

However your cousin is now sailing single handed in the ocean of life.
No Mum. No Dad. No Brother.

Be her family as best as you can & you will be the richer person.

She's been alone down there a few years now. Not a recent thing. It just hit me after she emailed me about my details. No ulterior motive. I just realised I may have a chunk of responsibility coming later down the line. She's ten years older than me and not in the best of health. I'm no stranger to it as I did it with both my parents after they died.

Maybe she has an executor of her estate assigned already like a solicitor, written a will, and promised her assets to the Cat and Dog home. You might hear from her again in the next twenty years, you might not. You could try asking her?

Then she could be holding an olive branch of sorts out to you.
We all need family from time to time. It gives us - sorry I'm in full on nautical mode! - an anchor to hold on to.

This is one where you need to be an anchor! smile

Without a will the estate will be shared equally amongst cousins.
