At the moment it's the weather.

I literally can't believe it but people are moaning it's too hot!

When its 2 degrees they are moaning it's too cold, a shower and we/they moan it's always raining.

Things are too expensive, you can't drive anywhere, the health service is rubbish, the roads are potholed, the foods crap, the trains are expensive.

All i seem to hear is English people moaning. It's as if they are only happy when they have something to complain about.

Have people ever actually been to another country, I do wonder.

Rant over! I'm happy now.

In another thread a while back, I posted my observations on this subject in relation to the 2012 Olympics:

When it was announced that we'd bid, it was "what a waste of time, we'll never win it"

When we won it, it was a case of "we're going to screw it up"

When we didn't and put on the best games ever, it was a case of "what a waste of money - where's the legacy"

Now, it's a case of "there's too many bloody cyclists"

The term "Whinging Pom" wasn't created for nothing biggrin

It is well-deserved. In all my travels, it is the English that are the most negative and yet, they have a lot less to be negative about than many! Ok, the weather. Yes, that sucks a lot of the time but as the OP pointed out, even when it's good, it's bad! laugh

PH is full of examples - posters try to find the negative in everything. smile

This is my observation, anyway. Not moaning about it, the whingers can whinge, I'm just bemused.

Try living in Scotland!

I don't think the English are moaning, it is more a way of making casual conversation.

Isn't it hot/cold/wet/etc. Just an, opening or space filling, dialogue.

The same with knocking things (such as food). It is a self deprecating trait, not a critical assessment.

Other countries don't do this because they can't afford to (being that they are nowhere near as good). We are perhaps the only country that is able to do this, simply by virtue of being so much better than everyone else.

PS The last paragraph was me being sarcastic (slightly). wink

I've found that anything below 20 degrees people are saying it's too cold, anything above 18 degrees are moaning it's too hot. There is no temperature at which no-one is moaning about it. For me, hotter the better please. There is no temperature it reaches in this country that's too hot in my book.
As for the endless claims that it's all marvellous in other countries, they're normally backed up by pure speculation.
I agree with your rant.

Having spent several months travelling with Australians, I find this ironic - when it came to whingeing, they made us look like rank amateurs.

And yes, I'm aware that I'm English whingeing about another nation calling us a nation of whingers.

I was about to post that. The Aussies are forever complaining! They like to give the impression of a cheery, positive attitude, but jeez they do go on. And this is coming from a Yorkshireman biggrin

Agree

Have a gander at the negativity on the 919 lap record thread to see how many people's party you don't want be invited to.

It’s women that don’t have a happy medium. I think it’s too hot at the moment, I prefer it cooler but I don’t moan when it’s cold, or it rains. Or snows.

Perhaps OP it's mainly the case that different people moan about different things. For instance, some people moan when it's cold and some others moan when it's hot. Just an idea.

I had to walk home yesterday and it was 25C. Not outrageously hot I agree, but quite warm; to me, it was unbearable. I try not to go on about it, but it's hard not to talk about it when you arrive somewhere looking like you've taken a swim, if people aren't familiar with you then you usually get asked about it so you have to talk about it. Then you get posts like these where people who like hot weather get annoyed at people who don't for not liking the same things they do.

On the flip-side, I'm usually the one walking around in a T-Shirt in January (apparently this makes me some kind of freak, well, I am a geordie so...). Meanwhile those around me moan it's too cold even though they have 3 layers of clothes, gloves, hat, scarf! Yet oddly, nobody ever seems to have digs at people who moan they are too cold, or at least not that I've noticed.
