Does anyone have a rough guestimate of how much storage costs (say half a garage size) per month? On all the websites you look at they want you to fill in a form and have someone contact you however i'm just looking for a rough idea?

I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference?

Sell or give away everything you want to put in storage, and then buy new. It will work out cheaper.

If you want cheap, contact the local council about garage availability. We have one for storage and pay £22 a month.

That was going to be my suggestion too, I pay a bit more on the south coast about £12 p/w.

Berkshire way is £210/month for 100 sq ft. That's a discounted rate.

Agreed. My dad stored a garage full when they went to Oz for 5 years.

When they got back he went through it all and didn’t really keep any of it.
Some was spoiled due to damp / mould, most was given away to whoever wanted it.

Pointless really.

Some councils declare garages to be 'for the storage of 1 motorcar or motorbike only' and will check from time to time you're not storing stuff in there. I presume for fire/insurance reasons.

Check that they allow storage, my council doesn't. Someone grassed on me and I received a 'caution' mentioning insurance risk - apparently woodworking tools are more of a hazard than a 55 year old car. irked

The rent-a-shipping container boys charge about £40-50 a month here, a third of what the Self-Storage bods want.

Downside is that shipping containers often drip internal condensation in the winter.

The yard near me has double stacked containers. The upper-deck ones are a cheaper and a pain to get to, though they provide pallets and a fork lift driver for free.

OK for temp. storage between house moves though.
