Has anyone done it? Browsing The Sun in the reception of the garage earlier, I noted they "pay for stories, giving big money away every day for them!"

So how much do you get, and what have you sold?

Probably a bit like you've been framed - £250 a throw.

Depends how good your sad face is I suppose.

It surely depends on what you're selling. Selling a story about Tesco selling you a yogurt 1 day passed it's sell by date/sad face, not a lot. A photo of Kate Middleton enjoying a bounce on Prince Harry. Probably a bit more.

Harry and Meghan appear to be more up for it judging by the sponsored content that followed your reply smile

A Uni mate of my wife's sold a story about some illegal drug ring in Liverpool to a tabloid that was investigating it. Got 1500 quid (Back in 2003 I think), but would have got 5k if she'd have named some of the people and herself... which clearly wouldn't have been the smartest move.

Yeah mate when we were living and working in the tourist resorts abroad sold a story to the Tabloids about swimming out to Madonna's boat/yacht and being invited to the party. Got £1500 IIRC. Complete bullst (IIRC Madge wasn't even in the country).

Same place, some girls I new/worked with were approached by a Cosmopolitan Magazine writer to be part of their story about living a naturist lifestyle abroad. The writer fabricated a story about Brits who moved abroad to embrace the naturist lifestyle except all they did was spend an afternoon being photo'd (with their faces excluded) walking along beaches, hiking the mountains and paddling in the sea in the nuddy.

They got about a grand each I think and it was repeated every few years in the magazine for about ten years.

Back in the Late eighties a reporter and photographer for The Sun stopped a couple of my colleagues (two young smartly suited bankers) saying they were doing a fun article about what type of boxers city types were wearing and would they be willing to show. Sure they said, just don't say who we work for (having told foolishly her).

Couple of days later half page picture in the Sun of them around st.Pauls churchyard with their trousers round their ankles and " Craig and tom who work for (insert bank name) show us their boxers".... all they got was a severe bking from their managers.
