Just started looking. My previous marriage back in 2009 I bought the ex a 1ct ring paid about £2800 if i recall, prices seem to have gone up. What is this lab-created diamond stuff about? Never heard of it. Is this different to the stuff in the Christmas cracker?

And this is why I'm never getting married 2.8k for a stupid ring to ask a question then spend another 20k on one day then 10 years later you lose everything because the marriage failed and she gets all your stuff and you end up broke why do blokes still continue to go through all of this especially when you have already been divorced .

The ring I purchased cost £399 and the wedding cost about £120. We then went on a £3000 holiday. All of my newly married/engaged chums were envious.

Would I fk spend £3k on a ring.

I’m torn between just saying that you’re a sad man CHRIS, or that
maybe you’re doing womankind in your area the best favour ever.

Totally this.

We did exactly the same, and it was still a platinum diamond ring for her to keep her happy, mine was some nonprecious metal for about 80 quid, but nice design and looks great.

Buy a ring/jewellery with a decent stone at an auction and have the ring of your choice made up by a local jeweller/goldsmith.

Usually comes down to what she wants ime. The girl I shared my office with at my last job was talking her boyfriend into the usual 3x monthly salary ring (and he's a big earner) + a promise ring (apparently some kind of pre-engagement ring? Could be a religious thing) and a huge wedding. My old flatmates on the other hand did it the way you did Sparks and they couldn't have been happier.

Sounds like an expensive divorce waiting to happen.

Also.. when did 1 months salary turn into 3!?

Checking with Wiki, an expert fueled, (their words), report on Brides.com in February 2018 suggested a guide of 3 full months salary for an engagement ring, but if the purchaser is heavily in debt, it could be scaled back.
Personally, although granted this was in positively prehistoric times, my first wife’s engagement ring, which she chose, cost me £28, at that time I was earning about £12 p.w., driving a truck, but we were 19 and 20 y.o., and in love.
Christ knows what the wedding cost, my father-in-law picked up the tab for that, but I seem to recall that I sprang for the cars, and paid for a week’s honeymoon in Paignton, Devon.
Can’t recall the rent on our flat in Bow, East London, but within a year, we got a Council flat in Bermondsey, S.E. London, at 28 shillings a week!
Fast forward to 1994, and my second, and emphatically last wedding, I was pulling down some serious dough driving my own Black Cab, but I paid just shy of a grand for her engagement ring.
We got married while on holiday in Tampa FL, the licence, ceremony and incidentals in a County Court House probably came in at less than $200, we used our rented Lincoln to take us and our two witnesses to Hernando County Court House and back.
I sprang for dinner that night in a restaurant overlooking the Bay of Mexico, maybe $180 - $200 for four, the flights and pool home don’t count, we were there on holiday anyway, so I’d already paid for those.

I paid £800 for my fiancees ring. Near £1k after import taxes and delivery - came from New York. Some bespoke guy she found on Esty. I thought that was pretty reasonable!
We looked at loads that were more expensive, but she picked this one in the end thank foock.

You sir, have the right idea!
I had it in my head that I needed to do the traditional wedding thing. Now the planning and etc. is to far gone. If I could go back and have a word with myself, I'd say to tone it down ffs. Looking like it will cost around £12k frownfrown Maybe more when it's all said and done.

Diamond has about the same value as graphite. Especially now that we can make the bloody stuff.

Wtf?!?! Hahaha damn your weddings are so cheap? Mine cost roughly £100k last year adding in everything, possibly more? Engagement ceromony, henna night, wedding day etc etc Even tho I stuck to Turkish traditions with buying Gold, diamond ring etc etc I’d say it was worth it in the end.

Buy a good quality diamond from Blue Nile or similar. Get it set in a nice ring by a good jeweller to her specification. Most cost effective route.

I lost my ring during the first week of my honeymoon in Dominican Republic while swimming in the sea.

It wasn't that expensive, something like £200-£300 I think. Got a wooden one from a local market later that day (which was lucky as I am a Z2) and then when I got home I bought a titanium ring from ebay for £20 which I have had for the last 8 years.

I'm in a bit a similar boat at the moment, but I feel completely out of my depth when it comes to this stuff.

Girlfriend has always liked the idea of a ring incorporating diamond and tanzanite stones, but I have no real idea of where to look for this. Is it best to look for a "pre-made" or just get the stones and have someone custom make it?

And then on that, where would I go to find the stones, price, lead times etc etc? Any help would be massively appreciated
