Never really done online supermarket shopping but my wife is incapacitated with a broken leg so we're shopping online at Sainsbury's. I was astounded when the delivery came that there were over 10 plastic bags used, I think the e is a small surcharge. The pack of the bags was very light compared to how much I would normally put in a bag.

This makes a nonsense of the plastic bag ban, surely there has to be a better way to pack the delivery? An exchange system for bags-for-life or something similar, or cardboard boxes and what's wrong with paper bags.

Just tick the box to not come in the bags, then it just comes in crates which you can unpack in your house, actually saves a step

When the Tesco man comes to my house I just take the crate, unpack it all onto the kitchen table then put it away after the man has left.

They pack it in so many bags as when the pickers go round each department they pack the stuff from that department in a new bag, like frozen, fresh, canned, toiletries etc

I don’t think they would do bag for life exchanges as there is a hoo hah about cross contamination and Bactria which may be present apparently

Tesco deliver fruit and veg in paper

Much easier to just say no to the box That says do you want it packed in bags?

Just choose 'without bags'? at the checkout?

They will leave you the crates if you ask them, collect next time or you drop them back (depending on the driver and how often you shop with them anyway)

Otherwise, have a box ready to swap it all into, hey presto, no bags.

Yes - tick "no bags" and you won't get charged. You will get a few things delivered in (smaller) plastic bags such as fresh meat, which they do as a light means of keeping it separate from other groceries in case of incidental spillage/contamination though it isn't full haz-mat stuff of course.

Saves you 40p as well!

Sainsbury,s pedal bin liners - £ 1.99 for 20. Next time I will just get 20 carrier bags ( £1.00) and they are stronger

We go the "without bags" route, too.

The driver unloads the crates, we empty them onto the kitchen table, and the crates go straight back in the van. By the time it's all signed for, most of it's away, and by the time they drive off, it's all away.
