On holiday in Spain at the moment...

Got woken up at 0330 this morning by the people from the apartment next door banging on our windows shouting “get out” and opened the door to see a huge fire heading towards us. https://youtu.be/aE1mhVestKs
Threw some clothes on and jumped in the car and drove away for about half a mile, to find several hundred other people who had also had to abandon their homes, many wandering around in pyjamas.

After several hours, the authorities let us go back, and to our surprise our apartment was unscathed, with the fire stopping about 20 feet way, although everything was coated in ash.

Only one residential property seems to have caught fire, although several agricultural buildings in the fields opposite us have burnt down.

Scary stuff Gareth! All unscathed is the most important thing, hope it doesn't completely spoil the holiday.

Yes, we’re very grateful for them waking us, the fire brigade did come round shortly afterwards apparently, but the fire seemed close enough when we left as it was.

Yesterday was a bit of a write off, having had so little sleep, and my son struggled to get to sleep again last night through worrying about another fire happening, but we should hopefully be able to get on with the rest of the holiday now.

the one thing that terrifies me beyond all recognition is the thought of fire - its just awful ... I cant begin to imagine how horrifying it would be to experience such.

The closest I have been to this was when a childhood friends house burned to the ground when I was about 8 - taking 4 siblings and is mother and grandmother too - we watched it burn from the school playground a 3-400meters away. it was awful.

Indeed but you would be surprised at how many clients bh and moan like fk when even basic fire detection had to be installed in their property.

Very true sir and the similar number who leave batteries out of the detectors or the covers over them so they can smoke!

Some people need permanent careers in support

That's utterly sickening.

I can imagine that is something that will stay with you for life frown
