From passing to funeral
Discussion
I went to my grandmother's funeral yesterday - she died on 19th June. Whilst that was the earliest date that the majority of the family could be brought together, the earliest date that the crematorium could accommodate us was Wednesday last week.
Really does depend on a few things though, such as how big an area the crematorium/church/other has to serve and of course, how many other people have died at the same time

Wow that is a long time. Sorry for your loss. I didn't expect it to take that long.Really does depend on a few things though, such as how big an area the crematorium/church/other has to serve and of course, how many other people have died at the same time

Like most things that involve the local authorities - it depends on waiting lists at the crematorium or cemetery. - in the cold snap this winter it was 2.5 weeks for my father in law in Glasgow, with a bad bug or two going round) It maybe slightly higher at the moment with the hot weather.
Most of the time it will be within the 1-2 week period.
I believe some religions insist on a next day service.

Between my dad dying and his funeral was 2 days shy of a calender month; the worst month of my life!
My dad's took so long as he died unexpectedly on Christmas eve, so it was the holidays and no post mortem could be performed until work patterns returned to normal, plus his funeral wasn't a run of the mill one; he was ex Police and was still very highly regarded so his funeral was quite a large affair with many serving Police present including the Chief Constable so it took alot of prep and logistics.
Having said that, a woman at work, when her mum died it still took 3 weeks so I think it just depends on individual circumstances.

OP the difference between the UK and ireland can be quite a shock. my mrs is irish and couldnt believe when I told her 'I wasnt sure' when my gran would be cremated following her death. I said depends on how quickly they release the death cert from the doctor/hospital, depends how quickly they get an appointment to register the death, depends when they get a crematorium/ church spot...... compared to ireland where she was used to it being within 2-3 days, it was very strange to her.
