I need a new belt. The one I have now was about £30 and although it's supposed to be leather whatever top coating there was on it has worn away so it literally looks to be flaking.

There are loads online (there is nowhere where I live that will sell anything other than the sort I have no) but I'm shocked how expensive some of them are.

Does anyone have any recommendations one something that is simply made to last at a fair price i.e. no Dunhill smile

I just bought this https://www.flannels.com/polo-ralph-lauren-reversi...

Black and brown and half price. Can't get better value than that imo.

Unfortunately the one I received wouldn't have fitted round a sparrow, so it's gone back. I'm a 32" waist and am now going for the 38" one... confused

I bought a Ted Baker black/brown reversible belt from John Lewis about 5 years ago for about £40.

I've worn it every single working day since. It still looks as good as new - no stretching around the buckle nor any wear on the top coat, and the buckle itself shows no wear at all It's outlasted its next longest lived predecessor by about 4 years already.

I was talking to swmbo about this the other day, it's really difficult to find a real leather belt and not some cheap plastic and cardboard rubbish with a thin veneer of pretend leather over. Just where do you buy a real leather belt these days?

Thank you was wondering if it was me smile I have something I was given about 20 years ago that I wore pretty much every day until a couple of years ago when I expanded a size - it's as good as it was the day I was given it and it's nothing "designer" or fancy it's just a piece of good quality leather and I suspect wasn't very expensive.

TK Maxx have some 2nd's leather belts , but they're still expensive.
Local street market, also have leather belts - don't last that long.
Aldi do some part leather belts at £3.99 every few months, which are OK for about that length of time.

Try a local game/country fair, normally have leather workers there.
I had a belt made to measure for £20 and its brilliant, but I do treat it with leather cream regular.

I bought a black real leather belt from a market stall in Llangefni, Anglesey about 5 years ago for 6 quid. .
Regularly used, it is still in great condition. But I have had to punch an extra hole in it to accomodate a certain amount of expansion. smile

Got mine from uni qlo, not expensive and it's proper leather. Lasted at least a couple of years daily wear so far

Plus their belt sizes are odd numbers of inches, so they actually fit me!

You want a bridle leather belt. Most branded belts from high street shops are bonded leather, or split leather, basically poor quality and it will wear, flake and split.

Same is true for sofas, car seats etc, anything that claims to be leather. If it’s cheap it’s probably bonded and will wear out quickly.

I’ve bought a belt from here http://www.equusleather.co.uk/belts/bridle-leather... quite expensive but it will last a lifetime. I’ve also bought one for £30 off Etsy

I bought a 'hawkdale leather' belt on eBay last year. £25 and it looks like it will last as well as the Levis one it replaced. It's not lined or bonded.

I have one and the leather is thick with a well-made buckle. I'm also a big fan of the boots and jeans but think they may have sold out to a bigger company in the last few years and the quality has suffered.
I bought a couple of really good belts at the start of the summer at Loule market in Portugal. Loads of crap ones about but this old guy and his wife made them from the back of his van.

I was introduced to these recently

Ok not good if you are a stock broker or something but to actually hold your trousers up its the best belt I have had in years!

I used to sell leather belts, anything from split/bonded leather which contained no leather at all and lasted 1 to 6 months to hand stamped/engraved buffalo hide belts with solid brass buckles that would last a lifetime.

Split belts sold for £5, genuine leather for £20 - £30

I was always amazed that the same customers would buy 3 or 4 cheap ones a year instead of buying that would last for decades.

Always always always buy the real thing.

i bought one off a stand in bluewater shopping centre, must be 20 years ago (fk!). Choose the belt, then choose the buckle kind of place and then they riveted one t'other. Its just about getting to the worn-in stage. The leather has no stitches in it and is quite thick.

doesn't help you much, but i guess there must be similar stand in markets around the place

I have a handmade belt bought from Blists hill museum in ironbridge in 2004. I have worn it every working day since then. Not that this will really help you buy a decent belt, but I just had to comment on how good this belt has been. So buy a hand made one from a real leather worker.
