I'm unsure if this is the right section of the forum, but...

Who is the most awkward person you've ever been involved in an incident with? Has anyone had a crash in which one of the other drivers turns out to be a friend, family member, colleague, etc?

I always think it'd be awkward as hell being involved in an incident with another PH member. Just imagine writing a massive ranty post about the whole thing only to find that the other driver is active on here and can see it! yikes

My boss.

I lived in Hertfordshire at the time. I grew up and learned to drive in a hilly area where you ALWAYS left the car in gear and put on the handbrake. And turned the wheels if you were on a hill.

I borrowed his car for a business meeting, finished and went back to the office - parked it up in a handy spot in front of some hedges. Even reset his seat to the original setting.

He gets in later, starts it up and kangaroos into the hedge as he hadn't checked that it wasn't in gear. He thought I'd done it to wind him up until I explained.

My brother crashed into the back of a car on the M6, on his way from Portsmouth to Cheshire.

Turns out it was my sister who he crashed into lol.

Oh wow hahah that is awkward indeed! It's funny how he thought you'd do that just to wind him up though, after borrowing it for a business meeting.

Was it awkward for a while after that?

Just a couple of weeks ago someone from my work scratched another colleague's car when parking up. Not even that much damage but I could feel the awkwardness oozing out of them both for the next few days... Just hope I'm never involved in anything like this!

Oh wow haha, I bet that one didn't go down too well... Any fallings out or were they alright with each other afterwards?

We had similar a few years back now, apart from the perpetrator never owned up, the 'victim' is still bitter now and I honestly think he'd kill them if he ever found out who it was. No cctv etc, impossible to prove.

And no, in the words of Shaggy, it wasn't me.

Christmas Eve, 1983. Reversed my crappy old Talbot Sunbeam straight into the side of my father in law's brand new Ford Escort. I know it was 1983 as the car was an A Reg, and I can still remember the rest of the plate too...

Edited to mention that he wasn't my father-in-law, just my girlfriend's Dad. You'd think I could remember if I was married.

Not me but I was heavily involved!!

My best friend was gifted a Mk1 RS1600 Escort for his 17th birthday by his father. (he was an only child and very spoilt!!). He came to my parents house on the Saturday morning after he had passed his driving test to "show off" and parked the car on my dad's drive which was about 2 cars long, single width, leading to an up and over garage door (new house 6 months earlier). Tony got out of the car and knocked on the door only for my father to answer and go blue blazes at him for parking on his drive in such an oil dropping banger (it certainly wasn't!!). All of my friends were petrified of my old man as he was a fearsome fecker (still is at 80!). Tony jumped in the Essie, put it in gear, turned round looking rearward, floored it and drove straight through the garage door having, in a panic selected first instead of reverse. Luckily for Tony only his Cibies were shot but the garage door was fubarred!! Still laugh about it now. Me that is, not the old man!! It remains a festering wound 33 years later!!

Not really he was a pretty mellow chap. Someone else in the team wrote it off a month or so later, so I guess he forgave me...

My eldest, 14 at the time , was late home so had just had a bking from his mum to "get his ass home pronto". He came flying out of an estate onto the main road on his bike without looking, straight into the path of car. The car was a MX5 so he went over the bonnet and landing in a heap. The owner of the car was his Auntie who had just left our house ! Luckily he only ended up with cuts and bruises and a night in A&E

That was a awkard conversation between the sisters !

No idea why. He wasn't looking. The awkward conversation should have been both sisters to him...

My dad reversed into the rear quarter of my Xantia Activa whilst it was parked up at his house in his CRV but had no idea he'd done it. Angry me found out my car had been hit at some point and ranted and raved for days that someone must have used his drive as a turn-around. It was upon noticing his rear reflector missing a few days later that we twigged what had happened. Awkward.

My (now ex-)Brother in law. He was reversing a trailer into a parking spot next to my Mini and got a bit crossed up, resulting in a rather scratched and dented Mini. He offered to pay for it himself but balked at the £2k quote and put it through his insurance. I'll never forget the look on his face when he knocked on the door to tell us- he looked less nervous on his wedding day.

A woman drove into me a few years ago, head on as she was passing a line of parked cars. I had stopped and she sailed merrily on into me. Upon getting out of the car she then exclaimed 'sorry, I panicked and couldn't find the brake pedal'....

She however wasn't the 'awkward' party in this scenario, just rather dim-wittted. The 'awkward' one was her Father who came charging out of his house about 50 yards up the street, accusing me of causing the crash and trying to fight me! This was made all the more 'awkward' (or amusing more accurately) by the fact that he had a good 40 years and 3 stone on me (I was 30 at the time) and I had a foot in height over him.

Luckily things didn't get any more 'awkward' because one of his neighbours made an appearance and tried to fight him on my behalf! The hardest part of all of this for me was trying not to laugh too hard and make it all worse hehe
