Ordered a parcel from a well reputed large online retailer, of whom I'm a very regular customer and have spent £thousands over the years. I specifically asked for next day delivery on Sunday (a day on which they still ship) as I needed the item for Wednesday). Parcel shipped Sunday and tracking on courier site said it'd be delivered between 11am-1pm Monday. 1:30pm still no parcel but tracking info said "delivery attempt made please allow 24 hours".

No attempt was made, it was getting delivered to my work address, where it's a pretty busy place and a receptionist in the reception area who said no attempt was made for delivering a parcel. I contact the retailer (said courier has no way of getting in touch with them.....courier is My Hermes) who refund me the postage.

basically 5pm and still no parcel today. Where to go from here really? The tracking was updated at 7:45am saying "on its way to the courier" but it's still no here yet, leaving at about 7pm.

Not sure when to contact the retailer but it's kind of ruined my plans for tomorrow. I guess they'd be reluctant to send another one out as it's about £200 worth.....

maybe I'm expecting too much but when you ask for next day delivery, and don't get it, AND when they say delivery attempt made when it wasn't made, then wait 24 hours and after 28 it still isn't here....?

Fact is you won’t see that again.

It's a real shame many "upmarket" retailers use Myhermes for delivery. The people that work for them are very amateur, usually in a ratty car with a big boot and a kid in tow at this time of year, and it shows in the service.

DPD and others do a far better job, with live tracking, estimated delivery windows, and more professional couriers (branded van etc). I expect it's a cost saving issue but I can't help but think it's short sighted given the delivery service is all the contact the customer has in the transaction.

They use a useless courier, they should expect to deal with these issues. You ordered an item and paid for next day, contact the retailer immediately and inform them it hasn't arrived, it's their issue to resolve.

Ask the seller to contact myhermes and ask them to provide the GPS data off the delivery attempt, if it was scanned at your office they will be able to provide the info. They won't be able to and you can ask the sender what action they will be taking against courier.
Basically MyHermes and Yodel take on these contracts knowing damn well they can't manage next day delivery so they are scanned in bulk at a depot as 'delivery attempted' to make it look like they are keeping up their end of the bargain.
They hope the receiving customer just waits a day or so and kicks up no fuss.
The shop you bought from knows all this and will fob you off with an apology saying it's the courier's fault and that they kept up their end of the bargain. They will do nothing tho as the courier's are cheap.
I actually don't know how they get away with it, Royal Mail and Parcelforce are strictly regulated and would be punished for that sort of dishonesty.

I've always thought that online retailers should offer a choice of courier on checkout even if it means paying a little extra.

Hermes? Free delivery but well, you know, it may or may not actually arrive.
Royal Mail? An extra £2 but will arrive but not in a state you were hoping for.
DPD? An extra £4 but will get there when we tell you it will arrive.

I'd always pay a little more for a quality courier. Consequently, my heart sinks a little when the retailer tells you it's Hermes.

Thanks everyone, I'm suitably inspired with confidence hehe

Still no parcel...... Have emailed the company, will see what they say! Should have been here yesterday and still not here today, not happy!

I have just checked, and it's now saying "delivered to a secure location" at 1936.....fact is my work offices shut at 1900 so nobody is there.....WTF!?

Shouldn't this all be "signed for" anyway? If the courier says "I did drop it off and gave it to a receptionist" and nobody actually signed for it, isn't it my word against theirs? Courier can't just leave the box outside, surely? One would assume that, if they could, they wouldn't have said "delivery attempt made" and not left it out the first time, right?!

A small parcel was dropped by Yodel this afternoon.
I heard the driver (or was it The Hulk) trying to flatten the front door
but my ground floor is a holiday let, which is why it says
ever so clearly, 'Please put deliveries in the mailbox at the top of
the fire escape at the back of the building.'

Then, I got an e-mail, 'We've put your parcel in a safe place and dropped a card through your door.'

Luckily, my paying guests were out so I went down to look. The 'safe place' was on the front doorstep
in full view from the street. And the card? No sign.

I therefore had fun filling in the Yodel survey (I may win shopping vouchers).

Are you satisfied? No. It's as well the contents were worth less than £10.

It doesn’t look good OP.

I’ve had MyHermes try to ‘deliver’ a parcel on two consecutive days when I’ve been in the house specifically waiting. Both days delivery was attempted but I heard nothing and given that I live in a flat the buzzer is impossible to miss. I had to arrange for it to be redelivered again using their online chat service who said the courier should receive the redelivery instructions but they couldn’t promise??? Luckily they did and it was left outside my flat and I finally got the parcel but I do despair when I see they’re delivering.

R.M now take a photo of the safe place if there delivering your parcel and your not in .

Re the gps plot , the customers won't be sent that it's just used internally to prove the postie was actually at your door rather than scanning a roads worth of parcels in one go.

My local hermes driver is really good friendly guy - but it’s the luck of the draw.

Where I am its the opposite(not the middle of nowhere but some delvery companies seem to think so), the bulk of the couriers have sub contracted out to a smaller delivery agent which means next day turns into 2 days and its the same delivery driver who won’t leave with a neighbour or in a safe place. So if we miss them it means either 50 miles in the car to pick up or wait in for them.

On the hermese side next day is next day and they will leave it with neighbors. Helps they stay in same town as wee do and know most people.

Yes, the same, my wife orders a lot online and the sellers often use Hermes, the guy we have is therefore something of a regular in our road and knows my wife well, he's got a little Berlingo van. He also now knows where our back gate is, as I showed him once where he can safely drop "soft" parcels such as clothes so that my wife will see them if she doesn't answer

That's hilarious (in a bad way!). Retailer has come back saying the courier put "CCD" in the notes.....nobody has any idea what that means and we have no member of staff with those initials either.

The mystery continues. Suspect it'll be a long drawn out process frown

I had one the other week from everyone's favourite south American river. Said I could have an evening delivery, works for me, so I had it sent to my house instead of work.

I received a tracking alert at 10 am to tell me it had been delivered and "handed to resident", which given I knew no one was home, made me suspicious.

They'd just left it sat outside, I'm amazed it wasn't pinched. At least it was something cheap, and not the laptop I bought last month.

The bit that annoys me is the blatant lying on the record for the delivery. I get that st happens and you might accidentally deliver to the wrong place or at the wrong time, but don't actively falsify it and just leave it there.

I try to have stuff sent to lockers or collection points where I can, it seems to be more reliable.
