My brother has gone through a messy divorce and is a bit tender. He came over to mine the other day and I was in the garden, he started getting arsey saying id taken some paint of his. The tin of paint was at my mums and i presumed it was her's but apparently he had put some of his stuff there. Anyway I appoligised and said no drama il buy you a new can if you want.

Later that day my mum called me saying he had got upset (in tears) over the paint. He is 55. I dont think its the paint thats making him upset more likely the whole divorce thing is just getting on top of him. I went on to Facebook and opened messenger to ask him if he fancied a beer, but he had deleted me! Now im just pissed off, this is just silly, over a tin of paint, then i remind myself maybe its more than that.

Today I nipped over to my mums to pick up the bluetooth speaker I left the other week when we had a BBQ. It wasnt there, she said you must of taken it. I said no, it's here. My brother was also in the room and looked a bit sheepish, now im thinking he has taken it in 'revenge' for the paint! I said to my mum well we can check the cctv on the house the night of the bbq see if anyone took it - he looked sheepish again. It must be him, its pissing me right off now.

Let me just check. You were about to use Facebook messenger to contact your brother? Does he not have a phone or has he got a new number and not told you because you're a filthy thief?

He uses messenger as his main contact medium. Marriage went tits up as they drifted apart he was working silly hours at work and she got sick of it

Honestly, just get in touch, take him for a beer, give him the new pot of paint and sort it out.

I was a f**king mess when going through divorce about 20 years ago, and I cringe when I think back to some of my behaviours. Cut him some slack and worry about the big stuff - right now he needs people who’ll love him no matter what.

It's no use skirting around the subject and trying to paper over the cracks.

You need to get it sorted out, otherwise you’ll both feel like you are walking around on eggshell......

His behaviour is probably masking the real problem. Better you're both out having a beer than satin.

This should be in the "council" thread surely.

Prime candidate for puns is this thread.

I'd put a lid on it before it gets out of hand.
