At arguably the most inconvenient time,I was perusing Xhamster and the doorbell rang. It wasn't my expected delivery of Impreza braided brake lines but a bloke and a very attractive blonde lady.

Now, I'm not an ahole per se, and these people were very polite so I engaged them in a bit of a chinwag, after telling them I was totally not interested while all the time trying not to stare at the girls rather nicely rounded tits, I was told how soon there will be armageddon to wipe out all the "false religions" (to which I mentioned that an all loving God wouldn't indiscriminantly kill millions - oddly I didn't get an answer).

The guy doing the talking said he was going to live forever. I did ask him if he found a loophole defying the laws of reality, he told me that faith was his salvation and I too could benefit from the immortality on offer. I politely declined.

After accepting a card and the speil that goes with it, it went into the bin and as they left. They actually thanked me for my time and being "a nice bloke" which led me to reflect, they must get a st ton of abuse from 80% of the doors they knock on. In some ways I prefer a visit from the JW's than the bloody charity sign up wkers.

About 20 years ago I had a visit from them too. A couple of particularly cute young ladies and me standing there in a motorhead t-shirt. Anyway I invited them in for tea and discussion. After listening to their "pitch", I asked them on their opinions on witchcraft. I explained I also believe in god, but we worship him with naked ladies dancing around a bonfire and occasionally a sacrificial virgin is "sacrificed".

I thought they might like to attend a service with us and they could pray to god in a new and exciting way. I assured them they would be most welcome and if they would leave their phone numbers, I would ensure they received an invitation to the monthly service. Surprisingly they suddenly had a number of other calls to make and really must be leaving and didn't even finish their tea.

I had a visit from JWs maybe 20 odd years ago and the like you, the female of the pair was simply stunning.

It was the middle of the afternoon and I was at home, having decided that a self administered grade one haircut was a great idea at the time. The doorbell went when I was nearly halfway through shaving my head. I glanced through the porch and, having seen the beauty on the doorstep, decided the best move was to stand (floppy) hair side on to the visitors to hide my new haircut. This meant my conversation was directed at a side window whilst looking at them out of the corner of my eyes. They did not hang around long.

Afterwards I wondered if the ‘leaders’ picked her by random, or due to her looks.

I wonder what happens to them?

I abhor all religion, especially those that go round in groups knocking on people's homes and try and preach.

But I cannot bring myself to be rude to them. After all, they are on the whole decent people, albeit misguided. IMO of course.

Would get quite a few of these coming round at one time always the whole family on a Saturday/Sunday there would be a big group of them with kids trailing behind handing out flyers and knocking on doors. I’ve always had a little chat with them and took a flyer out of politeness as they always seem very nice polite people who seem happy that someone wants to listen to them spread there beliefs but haven’t seen them around for about a year now they must have given up.
I worked with a girl years ago aswell whose family were hardcore jehovahs but she had a medical condition were she would have some kind of severe epileptic fit or seizure that often required an ambulance being called and whenever the manager would ring her parents to tell them they would literally go crazy that she was being taken to hospital and having treatment. They have some really crazy beliefs. I’m sure they don’t allow things like blood transfusions etc and other medical procedures

I think this is right, but here goes...

From what I understand, part of the Jw belief system is that they have a duty to convert add many people as possible to their faith. Hence the door-stepping.

However, their beliefs also say that anyone who has been shown the work of their God and chooses not to believe is dammed.

So, knowing that the vast majority of people who they try to convert will reject the approach, they're effectively on a mission of damnation. The kindest thing they could do is stay at home.

It's an interesting head-space...

These attractive young women are pulled out of family life often from Utah without a clue as to how the world works.

My uncle ended up marrying one! She was taken from small town USA and (along with a colleague) left to wander door to door in central Liverpool in some very rough areas. Didnt even understand how bank accounts worked, thought her money was going up all the time she was getting more and more overdrawn.

I visited the temple in Salt lake once, stuffed full of very young happy smiling people literally without a clue outside of their own dogma.

scratchchin Aswan difficult situation:
Eder they stop it or you keep on Möhne-ing.
Perhaps if you were Boulder, you could tell them look elsewhere for a reservoir of recruits.
Or just pretend you couldn't hear them knocking because of the Hoover.

Don't even think about the Sorpe havoc that beavers can cause.

Stuck in a bit of a spiral of doom with two at the moment.

Lull in a Friday afternoon about a month ago, doorbell goes, thought it was the chap that collects my blunt saws. Wasn’t. Was a heavy set Italian chap in a good suit with glasses that have flip up sunglass lenses and his wife, much older, English and equally well attired.

Let them in, big mistake. Italian chap sits next to me on sofa and highlights bits of the bible on his iPad, relevant to what his missus was saying. After every one I felt like I was being tested - “so how do you think we know it is true” etc.

Trouble is they won’t leave me alone now, ring the doorbell three times now, I freeze for some reason - although wheeler dealers/royal London adverts are louder than my footsteps, until they go.

Looked through the peephole the last time. Italian fella had, indeed, been replaced by a mid 30s fittie, must be the technique. Both cars were on drive, roof down on one, tv on. Clearly in and ignoring them, why do they persist? What is their goal?

Bewilderment reigns supreme.

When I was at uni after a particularly heavy night on the beer I crashed on the sofa at my friends house. By the time we had all resurfaced and started to nurse our hangovers it was about noon and I decided I was going to go back to my own place. As I was leaving two men and a lady approached the door and asked me
If I believed in god. I said that I did and that I had been trying to convert my friends but had to leave to go to work and that they were welcome to try so I let them into the house and closed the door behind them hehe it took my friends over two hours to get rid of them and I never heard the end of it. Still occasionally gets mentioned now over 25 years later when we are down the pub and someone mentions religion

Glad it's not just me noticing the attractive young ladies they are using. smile

Had a few come round to ours a month or so ago. Said I didn't believe in God etc. They tried to give a reason why I should.

We then spoke about children as my then 3 year old daughter approached the door. They told me their children are brought up their way, but they have a choice whether to submit to all the crap or not. I didn't believe them. They pretty much brainwash the kids.

Anyhow, they were polite, we talked for a bit, they invited me to pop to their Sunday worship thing and they left. I never went to the Sunday thing. Have better stuff to do with my time. I already have someone I have to worship at home - my wife. smile

Read "Educated", Tara Westover, for an insight into just how fruitloop some of this lot can be.

I know a few, they’ve never tried to convert me.

They’re all pretty successful in business and they seem to do a lot of favours for each other in their businesses.

Don’t believe in Christmas though do they? The wife wouldn’t be having that...

From what friends who have grown up in that environment tell me, it is definitely not easy to reject the beliefs of your (Jw.com, they've gone modern) parents.

It is like that in many religions/cults, though. If the belief (or pretend belief) is that the dogma, man-made rules and ritual are the way of a god and the only way to salvation and to prevent eternal damnation, then believers are not going to be too happy if their offspring decide to ignore it, are they?

I'd heard that there was less emphasis on door knocking these days. I was approached by a pleasant young woman offering me a "JW " leaflet and asking about god in Manchester city centre.

Shame. Around us we get a middle aged couple dragging around a male of African descent. I’ll keep praying for a blonde with ample bosom.
