Currently waiting in a barbershop and amazed at how long some men (mostly millennials it seems) spend having hair/beards shaped and trimmed.

WTF is that all about - it’ll all grow out by the weekend anyway.

Isn’t it about time that barbers charged by the hour? Some of these guys are in the chair for the best part of an hour and only paying the same as me, when my haircut is done in 15 mins max.

I've been going to the same barber shop for a good 8-9 years now and have got to know the staff there well enough to know that Helen, the owner, and Tina, who works most of the time, are very good. A haircut from them including a quick tidy up of the beard takes 20 mins max. I still have a good head of hair and so haven't yet resorted to the "one number all over look" that many seem to go to

However Richard, who does an equally good job, spends at least 30 minutes doing it. I don't mind when he does it, that's fine, but it does take longer and his tits are rubbish in comparison to Tina's.

He is not making as much money as Helen or Tina, who have clearly got the experience to know they can get more money by being quicker at what they do.

My regular barber takes almost an hour, charges £20.

I called in at another barber a few months ago, she finished my hair within four minutes and charged £4, I couldnt tell the difference in quality between the two.

The second one was therefore more expensive by 3X on a rate per minute.

My old chap took about 8 minutes. It was manic, and it was never great - often a small missed patch or something. He clearly had the mantra of cheap (£9) and fit as many in as possible.

I used to go to a fancy place - more expensive (£25) but took about 45 minutes so a lot less profitable!

Now I pay £12 and it takes 15 minutes. Nice and in the middle.

Most of these guys visiting the barbers go in with already-short hair as well.
Do they not have jobs or hobbies to be doing instead of all this preening?

Probably about 10 mins tops. DIY. I run the grade 2 trimmer across it in front of a mirror on the bath, then call the wife to get any bits I've missed. Usually get her to do my back after biggrin

One advantage of getting old and bald is the little amount of time I have to sit in the chair. 10min tops. Next year I hope to get down to the low 9's.

Mine takes about 15 minutes normally. 5 minutes for a number 2 all over, then 10 minutes doing ears and eyebrows laugh

A wash and cut with the lovely Hannah usually takes about 35 minutes.

If it's a morning appointment it's accompanied with a tea or coffee, an afternoon one a gin & tonic or a nice glass of wine.

I prefer getting my hair cut in the afternoon. smile

I do mine myself - grade 0 on the head, grade 3 'fading' into grade 1.5 on the beard.

Including beard faff - call it 10 mins.

The other morning i asked my missus to cut the scraggly bits of string off my jacobs. (left over from having the snip).....We'd had a very heavy night on the sauce which was evident as she approached my nads with a pair of scissors shaking like a rapist.

They're full of self importance, an advert for an NVQ in hairdressing asking if the applicant is "ready to change lives" rofl, you're a hair dresser mate, not a heart surgeon rofl No offence to hairdressers but "change lives" they do not.
