Not sure what to make of this, was walking my son to school Friday, this fat woman shouting at her 11 year old who is in my son's class 'get here you little bh, if you want to act like an adult il treat you like an adult you little st'
Roll on this morning, same parent, the little girl is running off from her looks scared witless, she is shouting 'uve ruined your clothes your fker'

The school is nice but there is a rough area by it which I have to cut through. Im considering calling social services, I felt like going up to the child and asking if she was ok.

I just spoke to a friend who lives in inner Manchester, he said oh ye that's normal by us they call them all the names under the sun. Am I out of touch or should I start swearing at my own kids?

There's a woman near us that we regularly hear shouting all sorts of obscenities to her 7 year old, very sad indeed.

Sad fact is that a hell of a lot of kids are pretty much screwed before they're born when they have parents like that who just don't care.

Kids think that's just normal behaviour and so the cycle continues.

You could speak to her but I suspect that you'll just receive worse language and she'll probably start some vendetta against you.

Mention it to the school? With that kind of language in or just outside school premises I can't imagine they'd tolerate their kids hearing that from a parent.

Social Services? Think they have enough to do without getting calls about parents swearing at their kids.
Lets keep this into perspective here, as you stated there will be a few attending that come from the lower end of society and that is the way they conduct themselves.

Granted that this is not ideal but the correct course of action is to report it to the school who will very likely send out a school wide communication to all parents and make everyone more self aware of the situation.

The end

You know, swear words don't hurt anyone? Working class people tend to swear at their kids shocker!

Anyway, every time this comes up on PH it reminds me of this laugh

Not just swearing at kids, but around them that annoys me as well. I was sat in a beer garden last week where Mr and Mrs council slob were swearing and smoking whilst not paying much attention to their kids who were glued to their iPads (they were 4 or 5 years old).

My BIL (wifes brother), has a very, very short temper, he will lose it at his kids (3 and 5), and swear uncontrollably at them, I've been out side waiting and heard every swear word under the sun being directed at them coming out of the house; properly angry too. I've heard him call his then 4 year old a "fking pussy" as he was crying; he was crying as his dad was angry with him.

His wife just lets him do it she will just roll her eyes and do a nervous giggle.

My wife has had to stop me saying anything to him, now I can't be bothered as his wife doesn't say anything and neither with the MIL (wifes mum), so why should I.

He has anger issues and flies of the handle very quickly, they can't work out why the kids have always been unsettled and hard work, me thinks it isn't a happy household and it is very stressy household too; that's why!

They aren't chav or Council, the wife is a head of dept at a fee paying school and is very academic, fortunately we rarely see them.

There is always a mother in the playground swearing at her unruly kids “get here you little s**t” and “go and play you little f*****s” are her favourites - aimed at the 8,5 and 2 year old.

She is actually very nice and quite well off - just doesnt see anything wrong with it, where as everyone else just cringes and quietly tuts.

If you are worried, speak to the school about it. They will have a safeguarding lead who should record your concerns about the parent's behaviour. The school will be aware of the bigger picture and will link up to other agencies such as social services.

have a day with me, in social housing. The parent's are unable to communicate in any other way.

I went in a house once and the father proudly showed me how he'd taught his child to swear. Cue a 2-3 year old stammering out F off and so on.

I'd report it, because it can be the tip of other issues. Other end of the scale is when children are beaten/starved/abused and they die.

All the neighbours have never heard/seen a thing- yet they're the first people lighting candles and tying junk to fence posts.

I go in homes and everytime an adult moves/jesticulates with an fist/hand- the kids automatically flinch- they're so used to being hit.

I never go in a house when J.kyle isn't on TV, on endless loop. I do worry that if that's children ever see from birth- how on earth they grow up with role models or learn to behave otherwise.

Reminds me of the parents of one of my best mates at school when I was twelve or so. The mum was meek as milk, very small stature and her one vice seemed to be country dancing. The dad was very tall, very stressy and very shouty - was constantly flying off the handle over nothing like "Why aren't your shoes touching each other when you took them off and put them by the front door?!" kind of trivia.
Very straight laced family, the sort of people who would look down on other parents swearing, not just at kids but in general. The kind of people who say 'sugar' instead of 'st' even in adult company. The fact that he didn't swear made him no less of a dhead. I don't think I ever heard him say anything nice to the kids and no visit to their household didn't feature him shouting at one or other of the two kids over nothing. How you could grow up in that environment and not develop either chronic anxiety or the same horrible angry streak I don't know. I haven't heard from them since I went to uni so I've no idea how either of the guys has turned out though.

I work in a school.

One of the Year 2 pupils was being disruptive in the class so the head was called to take them out of the classroom. The girl told him to 'get off me you c***'. Year 2 pupil. Six years old. So the head phones the dad whose response - after offering to sort it out with the head in the school car park - was to ask what he expected him to do about it as she called him that all the time, especially when it was time for bed.

Genuinely, what hope is there?

If you think SS are going to be remotely interested in a swearing parent, with no other indications of abuse/neglect, then sadly you've completely underestimated the level of scumbaggy parenting in the UK.

No excuse for it.....hear it all the time and it winds me right up...little hope that those kids will turn out any better....
That said I was scrupulous about not swearing in front of mine until I suffered a particularly painful mishap and let fly.....jnr thought it hilarious.......
He now swears like a trooper... But knows full well when to turn it off.......

I am a governor at my children's primary school and we have all been asked to refresh our knowledge on the subject of safeguarding.

The next full governing board meeting is tonight, so I have been rereading the guidance today. KCSIE part1 if anyone is interested.

I would suggest that it is mentioned to the school, as it can alert the school to the possibility of an environment that is not suitable. It may be all there is, it may just be the tip of an iceberg.

If you say something to the school, you may add to a picture that they already have various other pieces to.

I would say something.
