Hi All

I had a car listed on ebay since monday - it was a fixed price with a BIN option.

I'd also included my number for people to call.

A chap called yesterday - mad keen to come for it at the weekend but was 190miles away.

As I'd had a few calls I said I couldn't promise it would still be available at the weekend so he wired a holding deposit which was received.

I get home from work and go to ebay to amend the advert and someone had clicked the BIN and left a message asking to collect it at the weekend. It caught me napping but in reality I couldn't amend the advert whilst at work.

I've not replied to the BIN person but where do I stand on this? Morally the chap who called and left a dipper gets the car (he chipped £200 off the price over the phone which I'm happy with)

The lady who clicked the BIN has 700 feedback 100% so obviously genuine too

The person who clicked buy it now has the ability to give you feedback, whereas the guy on the phone does not. I'd say this is something to bear in mind though I can see that really, the guy on the phone 'got' the car first. I think I'd give the car to the BIN person and refund the deposit. I'd say eBay would side with the BIN buyer as I think their policy says you shouldn't put contact information in adverts.

fk your feedback, if you agreed it with the other chap, you sell it to the other chap.

Imagine how you’d feel having sent a total stranger some of your hard earned and he pulled out. Honouring that agreement is the only decent thing to do.

Even though she's used buy it now, you can still cancel the transaction. Just bend the truth a bit and say the car is faulty or something and not fit for sale anymore.

I think i'd do this. Make the excuse something fixable or reversible perhaps in case the other chap doesn't take it then you can go back to her.

Also worth putting in the listing that the car is advertised elsewhere and can be withdrawn at any time.

Or you could just message and tell her the truth, that might be the best solution.

Did just this and we have cancelled the purchase

Not done this before but I've learned for the future!
