Sir or Maddam ?
Discussion
Was in Waitrose yesterday (yes, I know I know) and my wife started talking to the cashier and the subject came up that often (more and more) the cashier gets some strange customers that she doesn’t know if to address as Sir or Madame.
She had an explanation, many urban areas recycle water and the increased use of the pill in the last 50 years means there’s more Oestrogen in the water and it’s slowly revealing our more feminine side.
What say PH ?
I imagine it’s possible but unlikely. Water supplies would be suitably filtered ?

but no, just people that don't conform to a stereo type would be my guess.

Are Waitrose including a tinfoil hat as part of their new uniform for staff? She had an explanation, many urban areas recycle water and the increased use of the pill in the last 50 years means there’s more Oestrogen in the water and it’s slowly revealing our more feminine side.

I imagine if Elton John walked into my office, I'd be a bit bewildered on that question myself. She had an explanation, many urban areas recycle water and the increased use of the pill in the last 50 years means there’s more Oestrogen in the water and it’s slowly revealing our more feminine side.

There's always been some weirdos out there. There always will be, I think she's reading too much into it and water is cleaner than it's ever been.
In my career, I often have to communicate in writing with people based on nothing more than a name and a short description of their problem. This means I tend not to use gender specific pronouns because I don't know of Sasha, Toni, Terry, or Sam is a lad or a lass.
If you want a serious answer then you should have asked this question in science not here.
There is some evidence that Estrogen and Xenoestrogen are implicated in feminisation of fish and animals but it is still rather sketchy. It seems to be an unproven but plausible hypothesis that it could have effects on people. I recall there has been some evidence to show these compounds in products such as shampoos and cosmetics speed feminisation of girls during puberty.
Estrogen analogues and precursors can be found in some foods, products such as soy and some plastics contain Estrogen analogues, Estrogen is added to cattle feed to increase milk yields and is therefore also found in milk, low fat milk will minimise this possibility since they are fat soluble.
So If you think this risk is real and you want to 'man up' then eat plenty of green vegetables, low fat red meat and seafood protein.

This is just a discussion topic. I have zero concerns about turning into Mrs 77 although I did watch Love Island this year
let’s just keep that among ourselves. It’s not everyday you have this kind of discussion in Waitrose

So don't use either."Hello, did you find everything, do you need help packing, do you have a loyalty card?" - no need to use any title.

"Filtering" wouldn't remove hormones or similar, but they'd be at sub-homeopathic levels anyway.Just think about what proportion of the population is reproductive-age women who happen to be taking the pill.
Now think about what level of the hormones from the pill are in their piss.
Now think about what proportion of the water in the sewers is their piss.
Now think about the efficacy of the water treatment in turning the contents of the sewers into the contents of your taps.
If it all went pear-shaped at the sewage works, you'd be FAR more likely to die of cholera LONG before any effects from second-hand contraceptive hormones.

Have you been taking the water again ?
I think I'll just stick to beer.
I would have thought relatively little of the water in our taps derives from sewerage. The supply from boreholes and reservoirs/run off surely dilutes this source down to a very small amount in most places, and even sewerage contains a lot of run off flushing it all along. And household waste water itself is in the main from baths and showers and washing machines, etc., rather than the loo.
