Insurance - cancelling & getting a new policy / same company
Discussion
I've just purchased a new car and the cost to add this car to my policy is an additional £700 for the remaining 8 months of the policy.
I've had an online quote from the same company for £762 for a new policy for 12 months. Can I take out the new cover online and cancel the existing policy?

I agree they should, but they won’t. Apparently because I am adding a car to an existing multicar policy and am getting multi car discount and by taking out a new policy I am classed as a new customer and won’t get that discount (even though it costs me less)z
I’ve alresdy lodged a complaint but I’m not holding my breath.
I just want to confirm I’m not doing any thing wrong from a legal perspective

I had similar happen with Hastings. I went straight to the cancellation line, when the lad asked why I was canceling I explained they wanted £200 more than they where offering on confused, and I was gonna take on the policy from there. The guy asked me if he could go and have a look and see if he could do anything. I reluctantly agreed thinking I was going to get the typical 'computer says no' response.
Was pleasantly suprised, he couldn't add the new car on to the existing policy as the broker had an age limit where they charged much more (new car was older), but was able to beat the confused price by £20 and wave the cancellation fee.
So worth phoning, every now and then they show some competence, particularly if you are canceling right off the bat.
