I've booked our annual Christmas weekend away for this coming Saturday staying pretty central in Holburn and i'm after some advice on the following

Food - late lunch really by the time were out and about, I'm thinking something easy going like a good burger, Honest Burger in Soho looks ok from what I've read, any better suggestions?

Activities - this is basically a booze deterrent tactic, i need to organise an activity or suchlike that will kill an hour or two during the day, i was planning on crazy golf at "swingers - west end" however it looks like I've left it too late and now sold out, for 6x 30+ yr olds any suggestions?

Nightclub - (providing we make it this far) 3 of us are planning on going to a club, anything house/trance related suggestions please?

The best trance/acid/techno club is still going strong in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton. Can't believe I used to go there 25 years ago!

http://club414.org/event/trancelucid-november/

Best place outside of a Hackney squat party and open till 7.00 am. smile

Dunno about daytime activities. hehe

There is a bounce in Holborn (Table Tennis, good fun)

Flight Club is also good value

Don't know of any clubs in the area barring Fabric (probably not that kind of event)

If you don't mind moving Dinearama and Flat Iron Square are great little venues that do street food, variety of bars and normally have a DJ

Odd as this might sound, a group of us went to play shuffleboard a couple of months back.

I didn't know what to expect but it was surprisingly good fun, like a cross between bowling and curling. A great laugh in the end and a good way to kill a couple of hours in a relaxed environment. Gets the competitive spirit going nicely too hehe

If you do decide to head that way, you might want to look at Honest Burger Liverpool St or Old St branches. I am a fan of HB but their Soho place is tiny and pretty cramped as its busy all the time - often you end up waiting outside for 20mins as they don't take bookings. Not ideal if its cold/raining.

ETA: It's the "floor" shuffleboard you want on the website, not the table one.

Honest burgers are fantastic - however for a work Christmas party, maybe somewhere like Meatliquor is more appropriate with the atmosphere and extremely strong cocktails? - Food is ace too.

Honest Burger and Meat Liquor are both great shouts, and you should be fine for a late lunch. Meat Liquor has pretty loud music though, so would go for the former if you want to be chatting.

I didn't really rate Meatliquor.

The main issue I had was that they have the lighting like a nighclub, meaning you can't actually tell what is in your burger. That and you're stuck under a big loudspeaker, not a good environment for eating

The Kings Cross one isn't at all dark.

Stab proof vests, leave your Rolex's at home and if you're riding motorbikes there, treat them as disposables.

Hard to find though. I seem to recall it's down an alley at the top of the Grays Inn Rd.

If I'm in the area I could be persuaded to go back. I won't be going back to the Croydon one though

If Soho, and late lunch (a lot of places close at 2/3pm)
Kiln - street food/grilled Thai place, not your usual pad thai
Dean Street Townhouse - open all day, very well made modern british fayre, nice "british salon" feeling to it

Nightclub - Hovarda. still in soho, not a club but a restaurant with an upstairs bit, different Djs every night, good looking crowd and good house music. Think of it as more a posh Ibiza crowd and music than Hacienda in the 90s...

I find meat liquor a bit hit and miss - still a decent burger though.

Can be a bit dark, as others have mentioned :

Can't go wrong with Honest Burgers - I know taste is subjective but for me they are they best burger chain in the country.

I need to laugh and cry at that as a Londoner frown
