As it says above dithe actions of an actor/musician/author affect your enjoyment of their material?

On the less serious side you may have issues with their hedonistic lifestyle (booze, orgies). More serious if you think of the organised crime/terrorist angle could be massive drug use.

But then what about the material produced by Gary Glitter, Lost Prophets, Weinstein (for example). Should you no longer listen/watch as they're scum?

I still occasionally listen to Lost Prophets.

Always feel a bit dirty afterwords though.

Morrissey is an absolute bell end of the highest order but it won't stop me enjoying The Smiths.

I tend to treat their personal and professional lives differently ... if I like and appreciate their work then so be it.

As an example I have a couple of pieces of Rolf Harris art that I wanted but couldn’t afford at the time but after the allegations and convictions the values plummeted and I bought what I wanted. They aren’t an investment, they’re for enjoyment - which is my distinction smile

Yes, I suspect a lot of my favourite artistes are people I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time with (the feeling's probably mutual). I know a guy who's a massive Steely Dan fan, but he reckons that as people Becker and Fagen were 24 carat aholes.

Some people get off lightly though; you're never going to hear Gary Glitter again on the radio, but how often do you hear 'Layla', a song partly written by a guy who's serving time in a mental institution for attacking his mother with a hammer and stabbing her to death?

To be fair to Gordon, there's a world of difference between knowing kiddy fiddler and undiagnosed schizophrenic!

Yeah i'm a bit selective about this, i'd never listen to Lost Prophets again, which I suppose is a shame for the rest of the band members who have done nothing wrong but Watkins crimes make very grim reading indeed and I just couldn't do it.

On the flip side I couldn't never watch a film that Weinstein was involved in again - He's played a part in some of the best films of the last 30 years and for the most part his involvement was purely financial backing rather than anything creative - Not sure how that makes it any better as his financial and industry clout is clearly what facilitated him to commit his various crimes.... but yeah, I couldn't not watch Pulp Fiction ever again...

Kevin Spacey as well. Some great films that I'd want to watch again.

That did cross my mind. But it was either him or some obscure Norwegian death metal band member.

I was listening to one of those Apple Music playlists a bit back. Can't remember what one, some sort of Rock mixture. Anyway, was quite shocked to get a Garry Glitter song on it!

Muscially - kind of

But so far, all of those listed (Glitter, Morrisey, Losprophets etc) are bands/artists I chose not to listen to anyway as even though their music was within the genre I enjoyed, I never seemed to like them anyway. Perhaps their specific experiences at being paedos and/or irritating tits gave them a certain tinge to the music they wrote etc.

Acting though, I don't know. There's more to it with that. Actors don't tend to have as much input into the final product of what you go and see as musicians who have written and performed it. The actor hasn't written the script, designed the set, or acted all the parts. They're one part of a bigger production

But, if it was found out that the leading member of a band that I actually liked turned out to be a paedo/murderer/rapist - I am uncertain if I would choose to then stop listening to their music. As the poster above said, maybe I would, but just feel a bit dirty about doing so.

What happened to him? I mean I know what happened, but I never really found out if any of the accusations made against him turned out to be true?

Still being investigated I think.

I do seperate the two: the artistic product and the artist themselves. I can like one, whilst I loathe the other - for me it's Woody Allen. I'm not a big fan of his work or his shtick (the whole neurotic obsessive), but I cannot fault the art behind it. One the other hand, he fills me with revulsion on a personal level.

The other is H.P. Lovecraft.

Rock & Roll Part 2 features in The Full Monty, so Mr Glitter's music still gets a regular airing.

Unless we go back through history to check every classical composer and artist has a squeaky clean reputation, then we are going to have to separate an artist's work from his or her less savoury actions. Taken to the logical conclusion, one could say, 'This artist has been known to use illegal drugs, which is a bad example to young people, so his or her works should not be seen or heard again'. Now what would your playlist look like?

Wonder how much he earns from this singing in royalties today.

Yes

Not quite sure how you can't be affected by things you hear or read, whether you choose to ignore it, is the issue.
