How has 2018 been for you?
Discussion
A years of highs and low for me. Watching the kids grow up, and loving the time I get to spend with them; and a great trip to Australia earlier in the year.
But work has sucked, too many hours and lack of enthusiasm for it; my wife is struggling with the kids at home; and to top it all off a friend’s suicide really has put a bit of a downer on the year.
I wouldn’t have written this before Chris’ suicide, which generated lots of discussion on a number of motorbike forums, taking the time to read through them made me realise that everyone has their own struggles, and it is ok to talk.
I’ve booked some extra time off into the new year, so have a couple of weeks to relax as much as possible with 2 young kids, and hoping to go back in January remotivated and getting the work done in fewer hours.

On balance it has been a crap year.
Started off with my daughter's boyfriend getting murdered., The trial is just going on now.
Then work was mental but managed to get a new job that I start next year.
Plus my wife's friend from schools daughter was killed by a drunk driver in the early hours of Saturday morning.
So on the whole, it's one I would rather forget.

Not great but not the worst started the year good got good progress on my race car ready for start of the race season then we had that bad weather in March which killed progress we lost water for a good 5 days as it froze then come down with a nasty bug that knocked me out for a month. Went back to work in April which then went down hill quickly.
Thinks picked up when I got a new job working in a main dealer in June then end of June my man went into hospital and been in and out ever since. My mates wife then in July had a bad birth and almost lost her life which was pretty rough too witness my mate going through it all though she recovered since then.
Picked up July-October had a few good weekends away went too the revival in Goodwood and finished the race car and done some testing. Then went back down hill with the new job with 7 techs leaving in a space of 2 months with a seriously pissed of workforce which has just finished of this year badly.
So all in all year to forget roll on 2019.

On New Years eve last year I couldn’t get hold of my dad which was unusual so drove across town to his house and discovered he had passed away, New Year’s Eve night was spent with police/ambulance crew, where essentially i swapped my dad for 3 leaflets that explain what to do when someone dies, all while listening to fireworks going off outside... It was quite surreal. This then meant day 1 of 2018 was spent ruining relatives and his friends New Year’s Day with the news. Jan and Feb were consumed with making arrangements, a funeral and executing his will.
As a result of inheriting enough money from the above to clear the decks of any debt (mortgage aside) i was able to finally give permanent employment with the elbow and start working for myself which has been good and really positive, earning significantly more than before. Obviously i’d still rather none of the above happened, but you have to play the hand your dealt.
Coming into Christmas and new year for the first time where we’ve spent it with my dad for at least the last 12 years I’ve found I’m not really feeling the love for it this time around, and to be honest i’ll be glad to see the back of 2018. Although i am collecting a Mustang GT on the 28th so there is still that v8 rumble to look forward to before the year is out!!
Sad to see the only posts are from people who’s had a not great year so far, maybe we can have some lottery winners who have discovered some kind of nirvana.... lol

I stuck two fingers up at a horrible 2017 and 2018 for me was pretty damn good. My income near on doubled, went on 3 holidays and took plenty of time off work to enjoy time with the kids. No one in my close or extended family died or became seriously ill and ive got a mortgage offer on the house i want. I start 2019 with another business venture that is a break from my usual property related stuff. Oh and i got married too!
For those who had a torrid 2018, chin up, we all know they are s
t years and better years and heres hoping 2019 is better.

Went into it with no real direction or clear goals, feeling like a caged animal. I had a job I hated, pondering my next move unwilling to jack it all in to become a real grown-up with a career progression in some soul sucking corporate behemoth.
Flew to the other side of the world on a bit of a whim to see one of my best mates, who promptly offered to take me under his wings for a while should I wish to move there and do what he does. Even met a woman - early days yet but it appears quite promising.
It's been a long time since I last had such clarity of vision, a mission in life.
Took out health insurance this morning. I leave in two days.

Pretty good all round. I had a quite poor time of it a few years ago through redundancy amongst other things, and 2018 pretty much put everything back to normal and then some (well it didn't, I did!). Cleared a couple of debts, saved more than I've saved in the last ten years, went a couple of holidays, saw one especially filthy girl and a couple of others and have started to look seriously at buying a house abroad.
The down side was many many hospital appointments including 4 x-rays this very morning, a possible precursor to hip and/or knee replacements. Although at 40 I'm a bit early for it.

Been a nightmare buying a house. Gazumped twice and been waiting 5 months to complete on current purchase (8th jan will complete). I kept most of my annual holiday for doing the house up so and didnt go away which has turned out to be a waste.
Been looking to change jobs but with house buying i didnt want to change through the process so been stuck.
I cant moan to much tbh its progressed but just been slow and dull.

2018 has been the best year of my life without a doubt. Made the quite frankly brilliant decision to leave my wife towards the end of 2017 so was able to start a whole blank page with the freedom to do whatever I wanted. Now have a new girlfriend who is the most beautiful human I've ever known, have joined the fire brigade, moved somewhere really nice and bought my first Alfa! Happy days
Met my girlfriend at the start of 2017 and things are going well. Brilliantly in fact.
Passed a interview for my dream job, BUT still waiting for the next part of the recruitment stage. Hopefully that will be happening in the new year (either second interview with one force, or straight to medical/fitness for another).
Work...still at the same place I have been for 11 years. We have swapped areas we deliver to, so a lot more driving and less deliveries. I spend my day driving around some lovely areas of Dorset.
Voluntary job...going really well. Got to be on TV a few times because of it. Went to another force to help out a few times. Dealt with some fantastic jobs over the year.
Brother has had a great year having moved out last year with his carers. He is so much happier than before.
2019 my two goals are leave Tesco and either get into the police or become a driver instructor and move out of my parents. Thats kinda gone on hold at the moment whilst I wait and see what happens with the police and my interviews.
Oh and go to North Wales again for a few days.

Mixed bag of highs and lows.
Still in the same line of work, something I had hoped to change but just hasn’t happened.
Work cut hours to boot so next year has to be better for a new job.
Cars still running happily, which it should given that this years been an expensive one for keeping up with the maintenance and some unexpected issues.
My Labrador got diagnosed with osteoarthritis this month and cut his paw badly on broken glass earlier this year so he’s not had the best year sadly.
On the plus side. I still have my health, my back is on the mend after more work related injury to it.
Best though is the girl I was seeing last year is still around, we are happy together and hoping to get a house next summer together so have that to look forward to.
