hi all.

having problems getting nice fitting suit trousers these days. (i dont need the suit jacket as not that formal at work now)
i am a 35 waist and 30 leg , which is not an actual off the peg size.
tried on loads of trousers at the weekend in bluewater and none fit that well.
also the sizing in shops seems to differ somewhat.
i have not changed shape or size either!

where are you guys going please.
thanks

What problem are you having? I have a great difficulty with suits fitting on the waist but not round the thigh. The Moss Bros performance suit (it has a little bit of stretch) is the one that fits me the best: https://www.moss.co.uk/performance-wool-suits

I had some TopMan vouchers, thought I'd get a suit for an upcoming wedding.

I just couldn't get my legs through the skinny fit trousers. I had to go up to a 36" waist, the waist was massive but I got my legs through. I haven't even got the chunkiest of legs either! I'm no Mark Hughes. So didn't bother with a suit from there.

Have you considered losing / putting on some weight?

I’d definitely recommend giving spoke London a try if you can get away with chinos.

They do a massive range of sizes but more importantly they do fit profiles too.

Find something you like that may be a little too large, then have a tailor / seamstress adjust to fit.

I wear 44R suits, but invariably I need the trouser length and jacket sleeves shortened ... it's no big deal, but I agree there are massive differenceds in cuts / sizing across different stores / brands.

Most of the normal places (TM Lewin, Tyrwhitt etc) usually can sell you unfinished trousers that they will pin up to your fit in the shop and send away to put the hems on.

That is fine if his problem is length, but if like me the problem is fit across thighs / calves then most suit trousers don't have enough additional fabric to do anything about that.

if i try on a 36/29 , tailored fit , the trousers are too baggy underneath!.

i am not some wierd shape either!
I will try Moss Bros, thanks for the tip.

Maybe it's your expectations?
Are you trying to buy 'suit trousers' that fit like skinny jeans? Trousers don't typically hug your arse like jeans and other more casual trousers may. How high do you wear your 'waist'? At my bellybutton I measure 36", but most jeans and chinos I wear are 30/32" waist.

I have a similar problem, 35" waist, 30" inside leg.

For work trousers, I've used these guys: https://spoke-london.com/collections/trousers

Not cheap, but I've got four pairs, that seem to be wearing well.

As this is PH, don't you just get your tailor to make them to measure? wink

I'm 38 waist and 33 leg, only place that I can reliably get trousers to fit is M&S.

I would also recommend going for trousers in your waist size from somewhere like Charles Tyrwhitt which I think have a sale on at the moment (don't they always!), as someone above mentioned they generally do alright quality trousers at an unfinished length, if you think they fit well around your waist and posterior then get them an take them to a tailor to sort out the length and tapering. Depending on where you're based I'd highly recommend either British Invisible Mending Service up near Bond Street (old school tailor style Londoners) or Steliana Tailoring in the City, the latter is cheaper and really good value and I can recommend both from personal experience.

Gant would do something for you i would have thought?

Personally i find the whole shotting match a bloody joke.

I have 34/34s that are perfect fit, 36/34s that are a perfect fit, 34/34s that are too long and 36/34's that are too short...

I also have pair of 38/34's that are there to remind me that if i can ever wear them without a belt again i need to lay off the pies!

Never actually seen or tried Gant to know whether they would suit me or not, but I'll have a look next time I need clothing.

Surely the solution to this is to get trousers that have the correct waist but a longer leg and have it them adjusted to fit?

Adjustment should cost about £10 a pair.

J Crew do a good range of chinos and smart trousers with different fits available. Also go up in one inch waist size increments which is useful (I’m a 31” so find this useful too).
