Just sitting watching Rambo. Anyone else have a big mofo knife as a kid. I grew up in a small village in the East of Scotland (born 1974). It was all the rage for me and all my mates to have big Rambo style knifes tied round our legs when the film came out. Rambo was all the rage and a big mofo Rambo knife was the Christmas present of choice. They sold them at car boot sales, seems a bit mad now but taught me a lot and was used to build gang hut's, hunt, ferret and build traps etc.

Absolutely. Blacked out blade and fishing line in the handle. Still got it somewhere.

Yep, 10 yrs after you OP.

Leather sheath with belt loop and leg strap, compass that screwed of the top of the handle, fishing line and hooks, matches, wire saw, needle and thread.

Bought with my uncle and cousin on a day out. Parents didn't let me have it for about 5 years. rofl

I had a Swiss Army knife. Present from my grandad at the age of 9 (IIRC). Cut myself 3 time within the first hour...taught me a lot about handling knives.

It seemed like a ridiculous present, but my Grandfather was born and grew up in Kenya. By 9, he was hunting, skinny and cooking stuff - it’s a wonder I wasn’t given a .410 instead hehe

Yes but in the good old days we didn't mug many old ladies whilst waving our bowie knife, or shank people over a facebook fallout..
I had a swiss army one, had it for years... Thought never crossed my mind to carve someone up with it.
Used to whittle wood, open cans, open bottles, get stones out of horses hooves etc.

Yes, spent my childhood playing and camping out in the wooded valley behind our house, we all had big Bowie knives purchased from the army surplus store, didn't even enter our heads that they could be potential weapons

I liberated my old man's diving knife complete with rubber leg sheath. Never once thought of sticking it in someone.

As a scout a sheath knife was part of the outfit.

Don't forget the compass in the handle of the knife. It could help you locate the RV to collect your M60 and grenades before wiping out the guards that had imprisoned your countryfolk for 25 years.

I still carry a few survival knives and we have a couple in the shop window. Always sell one when a Rambo is repeated on the telly. Bushcraft knives outsell them 10 to 1 now and of course are Much more practical should one find oneself alone in the jungle.

Lifeboat matches used to feature heavily in my handle contents. I didn't do a lot of smoking at sea though.

Didn't have a Rambo knife but I did have access to various knives which I used in the woods with my mates.

Had a mate; Simon, who had an unhealthy fascination with weapons, he had blank firing guns, proper guns not BB guns or replicas but actual pistols which fired blanks; whether he just had blanks and they would also fire normal bullets aswell I don't know, he also had air rifles and pistols, knives and Ninja Stars, my mum and dad didn't like me hanging around with him.

He's the sort of guy that if he cropped up in the news having murdered someone, you wouldn't be surprised; normal middle class upbringing but a bit unhinged!

c.1990 (aged 14) this was my badboy, frequently carried on my person. You can see I tastefully modded it with some extra straps, a clip so it can affix to a belt loop on my jeans, and a terrifying skull badge to signify how much of a badass I was.
I practised knife throwing in the local woods and about 30% of the time was successful.

It still lives in a box under my bed, ready to be used to defend the homestead from ne'er-do-wells. (Once I have found my glasses, and located the box among the other identical boxes of old magazines)

In the 1950's every good Cub, Scout or Ranger had a sheath knife, and there never was any problem with that.

Had a big old survival knife, Bowie knife, couple of flick knives, throwing stars, nunchucks, the anarchist cookbook, all sorts. And a neckerchief and a woggle laugh

In the 70s we still all had a knife but were told to stop having them all the time with uniform, not because of what we might do with them, but if someone took it off us. We then only put them on our belts at camp.
