Since after the festive period I've noticed that the shelves in my local supermarkets are a lot less packed than they used to be.

Has anyone else noticed this?

It appears to be at all times of the day so not just at the end of a busy days trading.

Prep for Brexigeddon. We've stocked up on tinned goods, frozen meat and toilet roll... Why wouldn't you?

Not noticed any difference in my supermarket.

Panic buying for every trivial circumstance is pathetic.

Yes. Tesco where I stay in Fife had no chicken on a couple of occassions. Have seen a big rise in the price of things too

Bottle of Robinson’s squash usually £1. Now £1.50 for example

I just assumed it was to reduce wastage, sell less at standard price, rather than chucking some stuff in the bin

Our Aldi has been terrible since Xmas

Couldn't find a can of Guinness for love or money in Reading Christmas Eve.

Spinach and kale always ends up in short supply in early January, I think due to many jumping on the healthy bandwagon; "new year, new me", it tends to sort itself out by mid January when the fair weather healthies have had enough.

It's a pain in the arse as alternatives have to be sought for my daughters guinea pigs.

Just take a bag with you when you walk the dogs and collect dandelions. Guinea pigs much prefer those anyway. Costs nothing.

This last week I've been in Lidl, Morrisons, Aldi and Iceland. All well stocked.

I have time to fill my day so wander from store to store chatting to old ladies about the price of cat food and comparing tartan shopping trolleys.

And you would be correct.

Margins in supermarkets are super thin on food items. Holding massive stock levels to fill the shelves in the hope of earning a wafer thin margin on each item sold isn't a sound model. Take a look a the clothing aisle where the margins are massive in comparison and see if those shelves are bare.

Probably shoppers stockpiling. The last month has seen doomageddon forecast in 2019 due to UK independence, climate waffle, and now the potential little bit of snow.

I suspect they are probably just establishing the higher price for a few weeks so they can then put it back on promotion at £1 and claim the 50p saving.

It's been the same in Adsa the last couple of weeks, the shelves are almost bare! It'll be the tinfoil hat brigade stocking up the bunker with toothpaste & tinned veg.
