As an apposite to the other thread.

I'll start.

Windscreen wipers. A rudimentary device, requiring constant replacement, which deteriorates in performance quickly after early use. Long over due a replacement.

Plaster casts, as in broken bones. Heavy, restrictive, sweat and itch inducing, why has nothing better been thought of, we're in the 21st century.

Eastenders. A hateful soap, which is a shadow of what it once was. Half an hour of characters trying to be as nasty as they can to each other.

Homelessness. It's 2019, and we're the 5th largest economy in the world, yet we still have citizens living and sleeping on the streets.

I wondered about wiper blades, maybe a system that blows the water off the screen or something like that could be devised, but maybe they are just the simplest and most cost effective solution?

Paper V5c documents. Surely we can go paperless on these.

They also don't fall apart if you dunk them in the bath. Fibreglass has been around 20 years or more, most lower leg fractures or operations these days are dealt with in a removable plastic boot.

Surely there must be some kind of foam material that can replicate the shock absorbency, ride quality etc of an air filled tyre without being excessively heavy?

I seem to recall McLaren were looking into an air bleed system, similar to fighter jets, to remove water from the screen but i suspect the trouble with this idea is the proliferation of road salt, oil being dropped etc that would render this system fairly useless quite quickly.

It's a great idea and very forward thinking but rather impractical right now

Yeah, thinking about it more, it also would need to be able to clean the screen too which might be hard without a blade to wipe across it. So actually wiper blades are probably here to stay for the long haul.

The other thing that strikes me that should have been a thing of the past is patchy mobile networks, surely we could have a single, global high speed network that is reliable and covers every mm of the globe.

I might get shot down for this, but imperial measurements and driving on the left.

Maximum speed limits, if we have variable limits then they could go beyond 70 mph in the right circumstances. If you could do 100mph at night on certain stretched, it might encourage travellers to drive at more varying times.

It is difficult to spot, but I've highlighted a section of it for you in this picture. Zoom in if you're still having trouble seeing the cast.

I don't usually argue with idiots but on this occasion I think it might be necessary. That's not a plaster cast, it's a bandage, which leads me to believe that the wrist is not broken.

I'm afraid you're wrong. That is a solid lump of fibreglass/grp style plaster, available in many different colours. The wrap is impregnated with some magic goo that's activated by a water/more goo mix with a self amalgamating property until its gone off. You could knock a nail in the wall with that stuff.

Here's something similar wrapped around my daughter's broken foot which she wore for the best part of five months.

Weren't McLaren also researching carbon composite V5Cs?

Rain-X is quite effective for dispersing water from the windscreen at speeds above 45 mph.
