I work in IT, software development, and have done for 20 years, so it takes a lot for a piece of technology to impress me.

But occasionally you use something and it's quite mind blowing. I was watching a film a there was a really handsome dog in it. I said to my wife what breed is it and she didn't know. My phone has Bixby (an AI interface like Siri and Alexa) and Bixby vision which has an AI image processor.

I paused the film on the dog an pointed the camera with Bixby vision at it. It instantly recognised it as a Leonburger. Pretty impressive to pick up not only is it a dog but also the breed from 2d flat image paused on tv. Especially as the sky pause indicator was obscuring part of the face.

Also this software effectively is free. Sure you pay a lot for the phone but you are not buying this separately.

Anyone else recently mind blown by technology?

Plus I want a Leonburger now.

Mobile phone technology, i worked for Motorola in 1989 when mobile phones were still the big brick type and now it's a mini computer in your hand.

The fact that I could download an app that killed off Bixby on my phone just minutes after discovering how annoying it was.

Yeah. I remember the early days of 33k modems and 20 mins to load a webpage.

I will admit to still finding it amazing that you can fax someone and as the bit of paper goes in one end, the copy comes out the other.

Went to a wake for my friends Dad. He had left him a really old bottle of whiskey to drink after his death and we wanted to know somthing about it. Pointed the camera at it and waited.

It came back with 'Happy fathers day', was a bit spooky to say the least.

Never did find anything out about it.

Pretty amazing tech, a few seconds delay, but I can live with that. You even get a receipt!

WiFi and mobile internet; I can be pretty much anywhere and can find out pretty much anything by tapping away as I'm doing now; wtf is that all about!

I’ve got FaceID on my new XR.

It’s completely pointless but it impressed me for some reason, sun glasses, dark in the middle of the night, hat, always works.

Ha. Think I may have started on a 14.4k but it was as much use as a chocolate firequard. Still remeber the 300 pound bill from BT.
