Would you change it?
Not including celeb rich people with stupid names like North West. But normal job searching people who will post CV's to business who will likely take a look at the name and chuck it.
If your name was say Osama or Saddam Hussain (i am of Pakistani descent, this is a real probability) or the equivilent 'white person' name, would you change your name?
If you were an employer how much does a name affect your thoughts of hiring?

Mrs cmvtec has a full on porn star name, hasn't seemingly effected her career in finance.

The reason i ask, my cousin recently married a guy called Sadam Hussain. A lovely quiet guy not even Iraqi or bears any resemblance to the once dictator but his wife (my cousin) wants him to change his name.
Personally i think its fine, but then what do i know? biggrin

Not dodgy, but... Had two CV’s land on my desk when I was working in Prague - names were:

Mercedes Ponce

And

Megahed M. Megahed

I assume the middle initial also stood for Megahed.

Dick Lovett has done well for himself flogging cars.

My Grandad died whilst my Grandma was pregnant with my dad. She remarried my Grandads best man. His surname was Twitchett, thankfully she never changed my fathers surname. My mum and my wife both agree that would have never married a Twitchett.

An employer is not meant to discriminate on basis of name, race or ethnicity... But that happens in reality so a lot of people from Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds adopt an English name to work or do business in western countries.

OTOH, western names are becoming popular in non-western cultures and vice versa. Christian Asians often name children with biblical names (I.E. In India and the Philippines) and there's been a trend of using American names in South America for the last 30 odd years.

The joys of being an Active Directory admin... A few off the top of my head.

Jessica Loh - JLoh
Scott Lowe - Slowe
Anita Dick - ADick

I also had a user that had the unfortunate last name as a popular erectile dysfunction drug... So her email (and signature) is Sarah.C@company.co.uk.

Before anyone asks, I never knew what Sarah looked like, so I cant say if was nominative determination.

I don't like using Muhammad, I feel like I am pre-judged or thought of as a terrorist even though I have a neutral British accent and was born here. So I use Sam.

Doesn't bother me too much, racism exists. I'd rather work around it than fight it.

My all time favorite when working for a German Car brands IT firm was Donald McGonagol. His username was mcgonad, we used to get a regular quarterly email asking us not to giggle when asking to confirm his username.

We have a Saddam Hussein at the firm I work at, bit of a talking point but no one really cares.

I think it's tough for kids who get given quite obviously crap names. I know of a couple who have the Scottish surname Baird and named their kid Teddy! If you picked up the phone to a professional person and they answered with the name Teddy Baird, you'd have to wonder.

My dentists name is Osama. He's a young guy and quite sheepishly introduced himself as 'Osama, but please call me Ozzie' hehe

Makes no odds to me but I can see why you'd want to disassociate

I do wonder about people who make a big deal about others names to them, me having the surname Jackson has provided some hilarity for the hard of brains, a guy I worked with at the Police when first meeting me as a trainee asked "Oh are you Michaels brother" and then laughed at his very funny joke, and to be fair he wasn't a bad chap but that was about the high point of his comedy career.

Jackson is a properly common name, its just not worth the effort.

People who genuinely have an amusing, famous or embarrassing name already know, like when the chap above was introduced to a lady who was taller than me (im 6ft) remarked on her height, I think she was fully aware of her stature and didnt need that pillock to remind her, it is acceptable to remark on someone like that until you are maybe four years old but at 50 plus, best just keep quiet !
