Nursery Drop Off Help
Discussion
Hi,
I'm currently contracting and lucky to have a contract which is close to home. I'm conscious that this will not always be the case so I'm keen to understand how people address getting their kids dropped off at nursery if they aren't there
I'm responsible for the nursery run on a Wednesday and Thursday morning only with my Mrs doing the pick up
She often leaves for work around 6:15
I'd need someone to be at our house before the Mrs leaves and to get the kids up, dressed and drop them off at nursery between 7:30 & 8:00
We have no family close who could help
I'm wondering how people who have found themselves in this predicament have sorted it?
Hopefully my next contract in 3 months will also be close to home but I'd rather know my options now so I can plan
Thanks

Schools can have Early Bird drop-offs, otherwise you can look into sharing with other families where you look after their children for a couple of days in the morning and they look after yours. Failing that there are paid child carers who can do the school run part for you. Contact the school and other parents would be my first thought.
Option a) childminder, though I doubt they'd come round and get them up and dressed - you'd probably have to drop off at their place. (otherwise you'll need a nanny!)
Option b) work from home on those days?
Option c) arrange flexible working hours so you can go in to work a bit later?

Have some friends in a similar situation. She has big job in London, he is a contractor often working 2 hours away, they have one child.
They employ somebody to come to the house, who helps with getting their 4yr old ready and she then drives him to nursery three days a week. This works because that person also happens to work at the nursery in question.
The parents then plan to collect by 6pm but on the occasion where that isn't possible that same person can sometimes help or on rare occasions I've done it for them while collecting my own children, but it requires either two trips or my wife to join me at collection due to only having two car seats per car.
We were also similar but the solution we came up with was that I left my job in London with 50% travel for one much closer to home with no travel and now 3 years later my wife has done the same. I'd had enough of management consultancy anyway so I was fine with it.

OP is talking about nursery, not school. Most nurseries don't open before 8am, and some not until 8.30am.
Most of our local nurseries open from 7am as the norm and one or two are 6:30am.Its to drop 2 children at nursery. The nursery they are in starts at 7:30 which is the earliest drop off time
My Mrs will leave for work around 6:15 / 6:30. So ideally need help from 6:00 to drop off at 7:30 / 8:00 on a Wednesday and Thursday
Asking the nursery staff is a good shout. We have one who babysits for us if we go out and is the assistant manager

It varies a lot - our nursery is from 7, but for a while they were also spending some time in another local one which was from 8.
Sounds like a good fit for a (school age) childminder who could fit that in before school dropoff. But our solution was that I switched roles and am almost always based at home so I can easily do the nursery runs.

Pretty bum deal for a childminder though, two hours pay to get up early, take two kids to nursery, plus other children, then be on call for the inevitable emergencies ..
A live-out nanny would probably make sense if they are preschool - you could stop some of the nursery afternoons etc to bring the cost down. Better care than a nursery too *ducks*
