The waitress at TGI Friday's kept saying "Hi guys" "What would you guys like".
My wife and daughter don't like being referred to as 'guys' and I agree with them.

I have 1,000 more important things to worry about than collectively being called ‘guys’.

It’s not a big deal is it? Or am I missing something?

Ok so did you say anything to the waitress or just come on the internet to moan?

You should have stood up offended and say did you just assume my gender?! I’m gender fluid not a guy! Then demand your st meal for free and go to a proper restaurant

Pet hate of mine. Winds me up no end when SWMBO and me pop in to somewhere in town for a bite to eat and a member of staff younger than our children greets us with ‘Hi guys’.

Naturally being British and middle aged we politely ask for a table then once seated mutter under our breath about bloody ‘guys’ whilst enjoying our meal.

Being called 'guys' is bad enough, but I hate it when waitresses don't use any punctuation.

Then you go in a chip shop and ask for some chips and they say do you want regular or large?

What's wrong with medium?

It's not New York or McDonalds ffs!

I just walk out in disgust...…….. (Unless it's the only chip shop in town)

Jeez, life must be exciting if someone innocently refers to people as guys really gets you uptight, either that or you're a heart attack waiting to happen.

Chill out a bit.

I agree, totally.
However, we went into a pub as a mixed group, and it was ‘Hello, folks’. Much more - well, folksy.
I also hate the ‘Can I get a coffee?’ I am waiting for the retort ‘No. We get the coffee, you drink it’

Some people tend to easily forget that language evolves.

Oh, and maybe try not being so sensitive to trivial bks all the time?

Just a thought.

Agreed - how’d you like them to address you all - hello sir, madam and young lady? And then someone gets offended that they’d assumed gender of someone else...

I think it quite neutral and not an impolite way of greeting a group. But maybe I’m biased as I’m a guy.

But yes, first world problem right there.

If you don't want to be referred to informally by an Americanism, perhaps you should avoid informal American restaurants.

It's like going to a French restaurant and complaining the maitre d' called your wife Madame when she doesn't run a brothel!
