Lovely weather but why follow the herd?
Discussion
Seeing the pictures of crowded beaches all along the south cost in today's glorious weather, I have to wonder why you'd want to spend hours in a queue to then sit on a packed beach and queue for ice cream/chips/bog, only to follow everyone back home at 6 mph.
I appreciate you go to a beach because it's adjacent to the sea, but is that hassle worth it when you could stay in your garden or the local park and save the aggravation?

Whatever you get up to in your spare time is your business, mate. Wales is a nice place..
Yep OP I agree; the wife mentioned earlier that her friend mentioned to her that as they were gong to the beach (West Wittering) on Monday with their dog, did we we want to join them with our 3.
I laughed and said something along the lines of "what, along with the rest of the world!?"
Apparently they are going very early to "beat the traffic"; we aren't going, I don't get a huge amount of time off work and any time I do get off will not be spent getting up early to get to the beach which is an hour or so away; on a good run!
We will likely drive to Morden (30 minutes), park for free, get the tube (for not very much) and do one of the walks out of our London walks book.

- you can't generally build sandcastles in your back garden
- a paddling pool is not the same as the sea.
- a choc ice is not the same as a mr whippy
- fish and chips tastes nicer by the sea
- it is nice to get out of your house / local area from time to time.

your are of course, correct at these times, bank holiday weekend can be such a drag. I appreciate you go to a beach because it's adjacent to the sea, but is that hassle worth it when you could stay in your garden or the local park and save the aggravation?

for example a weekend drive to eastbourne is more preferable to Brighton.
in height of the heatwave last year i spent a week in bognor. it was fab because it has a huge beach front, not many people and a to-die-for food establishment.
i have to say though that, on reflection, some of the most popular spots are popular for a reason and there is nothing more pleasing than making ones way to a hotspot when the sun is blazing and it’s a Tuesday evening.
this weekend i have done the local thing and tomorrow will be happy to spend the day outside
my local pub on Keston common.
