My mum probably still has one of these and they are used for opening tins, there are 2 hooks on the underside that allow the wide tang on the right handle to pierce the can just below the crimped lid. After that the long blade on the left is inserted into the hole in the side of the can and you cut around the top as if using a pair of scissors. I couldn’t read the Patent number on my phone. The patent is for a tin opener.
