Looking after (non-raw) selvage jeans
Discussion
I've got myself a couple pairs of edwin selvage jeans - i am new to both edwin and selvage.
They have 'wash' or 'rinse' in the description so i believe they are not raw and i therefore don't have to muck about with the not washing for 6 months or wearing in the bath etc.
But do i need to rinse before use? And is machine wash on cold / warm (inside out) ok - detergent and softener or any special stuff i should use? Or can i just treat them like any old pair of Levis.
I got these two

I think you'll find the answer is an MX5, or if you want a boot, a remapped 335. Either way, you'll need to dominate the stairs, and when you've sorted your jeans, make sure you have plenty of frozen sausages.
You'll probably find a configuration error if you plug them into VCDS - just code them in and they'll be fine.
I thought I'd share with you the normal answers from PH, because otherwise I would reveal that I can understand each of the words in your post, but not what it all means.
WTF is a 'raw' jean? I dunno, all the jeans I buy, I just wear. I never even realised there was such a sub culture.

I got these two (except the ed80's are rainbow selvage rather than red listed)

Never heard of 'raw' jeans either, what's that all about then?

Edited to add, the blokes in the links really aren't selling the concept to me either.
They look like smack head tramps they've just picked up for the photo shoot and said "bang these jeans on for a fiver".

Edit - raw denim is same as other denim. Just 3 times dearer.

Haha i spent nowhere near £180 on them but the eBay link is more difficult to use to describe them
And thanks for the advice but i have an mx5 already
I agree the blokes do nothing to sell the jeans, they look much better on i promise!! I changed the links to get rid of the slightly... special looking models

Never understood spending loads on jeans, they're just jeans. Unless you're a gorgeously shaped girl they'll always look baggy and crap. Buy a pair for a tenner and no one will notice the difference
Middle aged Pistonheader in giving s
t fashion advice shocker. The only people that won't notice the difference are other middle aged men.OP, you're more likely to get constructive answers here. Plenty of selvedge denim advice through google as well such as this link. I only have one pair of selvedge jeans and tbh I just treat them the same as all my other jeans.
Selvedge just refers to the finish at the edges of the component panels, this:

It's pretty common for Japanese jeans to do this; they do love perfection.
Otherwise they are just jeans.

You could soak them if you are worried about transferring dye to any light coloured upholstery you may have but you don't really need to.
I would still try and avoid washing them as often as you can, the dye will still wash out even if they are a 'washed' finish. The indigo dye they use to dye denim doesn't actually stain the fabric, it mechanically adheres to the fibres and will still gradually rub off when you wash them or rub them against things.
Just remember to turn them inside out when you wash them.
