I'm doing a solo sponsored walk over 5 days soon and thought I could use social media to keep my sponsors updated as I progress. The starting point would be to upload progress maps and photos on Strava and Relive as I go. That should be easy provided I can get a phone signal and my batteries hold up. (I'll have additional battery packs.)

The question is what I do from that point to enable sponsors to see things? For family and friends I can upload links to Relive onto Facebook but I don't want to suggest that all of my work colleagues become Facebook friends on my personal Facebook site. Emailing them all a few times a day seems like a load of hassle and is a bit presumptuous. Perhaps I should have another Facebook account for the walk or even use Twitter? I must admit, I find the Twitter option slightly scary because I don't really want to broadcast to the world and I feel I'll lose control of things a bit and might do more harm than good. If I had a dedicated Facebook site I could upload data a number of times a day and could also post some extra photos and information once I'm home. I could also leave it open for a few weeks afterwards for people to see. I assume that Twitter is only any use if you are actively Tweeting?

Any ideas? Cheers.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'll check this out. It looks rather like Relive, so I might still have the issue of how I share.

Start a twitter account, don't put your real name on it, no need to accept requests or anything, once the walk is finished just leave it sitting there or use it again in future for another trip (you can rename it).

Cheers. I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to Twitter - Does that mean I can decide whether people see my posts, just like Facebook?

You can lock the account so that you can approve who follows you, but then that adds an extra level of administration before/during the event.

If you aren't using your real name what does it matter if random people can see you progress?

That's a fair point. I just assumed that's what you meant about requests. Either way, it looks like an option.
