If the UV rating is up I tend to stick on a plain navy cap with a slightly rounded peak. Nothing fancy just to keep the heat off with sun cream too.

I bought myself a Panama yesterday (folding). The older I become, the smarter it seems to keep the sun off my face.

A Panama gets thrown in the car whenever I go out in the summer in case the sun shines. It probably gets worn half a dozen times a year.

ETA: I also have a trapper hat for cold weather excursions, it too gets worn about half a dozen times a year.

I might look a dork in either or both but I'm past the age of caring.

I wear a trapper style hat in the winter - keeps my ears warm whilst dog walking. Sometimes will wear a beanie in autumn, where it's not cold enough for the trapper hat. Summertime, wear a straw hat if it's really hot and sunny to protect my head/face.

I sometimes wear a flat cap in winter. Unfortunately, I have a hairstyle that gets ruined by hats, so if I want to wear a hat I have to commit to it all day. This largely confines my hat wearing to all day outdoor events.
