Mods please can I ask you to leave this thread here for maximum exposure rather than moving to the Health forums.

Can I please ask that those in the UK (I’m sure other similar sites exist elsewhere too) consider registering to be a stem cell donor. It’s only a mouth swab and you could be a lifesaver. Imagine being able to do this for some seriously ill person.

Can you each please register for this:
https://www.dkms.org.uk/en/register-now

Thanks

Btw only open to under 55s

I would but unfortunately but due to an auto immune condition nobody wants my manky stem cells. The missus has signed up though.

But yes, well done for highlighting this as it's an important cause. Sign up if you can!

Just went through that - I'm just over 55 but it still wants to send me a kit. Where did you find that 55 restriction ?

ETA : Just found the 55 limit under FAQ; still seems strange that they'd want to send me a kit though.

Cheers, just signed up on the website.

Usually excluded from donor lists on account of being an uphill gardener, so its refreshing to be able to do some good.

Used to love that on the blood donation forms... a whole raft of questions about your health, and then at the end it's like "Are you gay, a sex worker, or taking smack at the moment?" headache

P.S. OP, I am already on the Anthony Nolan register- I take it they are one and the same?

Anthony Nolan said that it cost them some money to test and add donors to their register and their policy was not to collect from donors over 69 iirc, so if you are older your eligible period is shorter and it's a question of simple economics.

The age range for registration for AN is now 16 to 30, though you stay on the register until you're 60. Which is why it's more important for us old farts to register with other, erm, registers.
