I have a customer who wants a plant. They are in Germany. 12 weeks ago when I took a break for a bit, shipping all over Europe via DHL was (fairly... if we ignore their propensity to not know what 48 hours is) a doddle. Now every single courier is refusing any plant based parcel.

Apart from Parcel Force but from DHL’s £9 to their £120+vat is a bitter pill to take.

Is there anyone out there with any good/reasonable and cost effective ideas how to get this damn plant (which is unavailable to buy in Germany or indeed most of Europe) to where it needs to go.

what is most concerning is I mostly deal with Europe and this has ballsed up just about every single bloody transaction coming my way.

Tell the customer the situation and let them make the decision, send it described as plastic plant maybe. We are still in the EU so sending plants is legal in that respect.
At the bottom of all my emails to customers abroad is my T&Cs, it outlines specifically what they are paying for and I leave the choice with them.

It's up TO YOU to package it properly, pack it like it will get thrown as it may well do.

One I spoke to this evening said it was changed for the initial Brexit deadline because you’d have to have documentation for plant material post Brexit and they didn’t know what was happening so just locked it down.

Getting stuff in from outside Europe is tricky and time consuming but it is doable. Oddly if I had to produce documentation it would actually be easier to send to the States than Germany.

Good plan. Thank you. So frustrating that it would tonnes easier to produce documentation than the current situation. Plan C was to get a friend who is going to mainland Europe to take it with them and post from there.

The thing is packaged to withstand an elephant. I had one lost in Sweden for 10 days and apart from being a bit dry it was in perfect condition. My theory is why use one load of bubble wrap when you can use 5.
