Yea weird subject right?

My wife posted on FB the other day in some group 'Cleaning on a Budget' or some such thing.

Anyway the subject came up about what happens to bath towels once they've been used, and this is where it got a bit strange.

My wife (I agree too) are of the opinion that you have a bath/shower/wallow and after you have dried off you put the towel in the wash as it's been used.

Apparently not and youre some kind of weirdo if you don't just hang it over the bannister to dry then reuse for as long as you feel you can get away with.

Who knows though, I'm of the 'older generation' so maybe it's one of these things that you do now if you're thoroughly modern.

Only reason I'm asking here is because the FB group went all mumsnet about it and things got (bizarrely) very heated and the vastly greater proportion of the group felt that used towels didn't need to be washed.

So wash or hang over the bannister?

Washing after every use is a shocking waste of water and electricity as far as I'm concerned. It's not as if you're pipe cleanering your colon with it. I'll keep using it until it's clearly seen better days.

Yes you're weird, very weird.
I use mine until it looks or feels a bit mingin' then it goes in the wash. I can't think of any good reason why not to get a few uses out of a towel before washing it.

Are you a bit OCD on the cleanliness? I mean even hotels ask you to use towels for a few days.....

If we did thst in our household, with children as well, we'd be washing towels all week!

Use them a few times before washing them. They should just be soaking up clean water after all.

Err, what is this about bannisters? What is wrong with towel rails? wink

but no, why on earth would you wash it after every use? It is covered in clean water (you did wash yourself didn't you?) so it only needs drying out!

Either you don't wash very often or your washing machine must get a right hammering.........

I’d have thought as the ‘older generation’ you’d be washing it monthly!
If you need to wash your towel after each use I’d be questioning your showering standards.

Are you the same with hand towels/tea towels? If not, why?

No, tend to wash them weekly here, bung all the towels in together on a hotter-than-clothes cycle and use the other set for the next week, clean ones are then available in the airing cupboard once they are dry.

My house is equipped with two heated towel rails. They are for drying towels after they are used. I think that answers your question.

You'll be telling us next that you change your underwear every day, instead of regularly once a month like the rest of us.

New towel every week or so. You wash all the dirt off in the shower so towel stays relatively clean surely?

I was just thinking the same!

I normally wash them once a week, maybe longer. My normal indicator is wash them when I can no longer smell the fabric conditioner / washing powder on them.

Washing after every use is a complete waste of water and electricity as said above.

How long is a towel in contact with your freshly cleaned body? A handful of minutes? This is like changing your clothes every five minutes as they are now dirty.

Not an age thing either, makes no sense for post war children to be raised to be so wasteful, you might expect the younger generation to be so but I doubt it.

Unless you've done the job badly, your literally wiping clean water off your body. Why on earth would you think washing them every time is necessary?

Do you do the same with tea towels? Don't tell me you use single use kitchen paper to dry everything!

Seriously use them for a few days at least and save a shed load of water/electricity like the other person said....

I put mine on the towel rad, which is set to come on before I have a shower, therefore it's pretty much dry before the rad is cold.

Once a month?
