Or is it just me, its been so dry lately, as a result hay fever has been a bh, grass is all dying, little brat kids are constantly playing out and screaming and i feel like i need to be going somewhere every day as i cant relax in the house with the sun beaming through the windows. Also too humid to sleep and im constantly sweating and feeling uncomfortable.

Is it just me being a moaning old fart or is anyone else hoping it would just rain for a few days.

Just you.

I spend all year waiting for a bit of sunshine. We get our fair share of rain, so I won't be wishing for more of it just yet.

Just had to check which country you were posting from. Hardly water shortages and grass fires is it?

Not me
It's great

What I do think however is that its pretty unfair on school children. they seem to be having the last 2 weeks or so of the term in really warm conditions and many are cooped up inside. It's not how I remember the terms
Out of interest I checked back and sure enough we used to break up earlier generally at the end of June
I checked this out by looking at the dates of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. I can remember which finals I saw at home when I was off and which coincided with school.
We broke up at least a week to 2 weeks earlier than the kids do now and I am sure the holidays were longer.
We also broke up mid week
I believe an adjustment to the school year is in order to bring the school summer holidays foreward
I also believe that school holidays throughout the country should be standardised

Fear not!

I ordered a brass hose fitting off Amazon in late June which turned out to be taking three weeks to post from China.

Without it, I have had to disconnect my irrigation system in order to water the rest of the garden with my hose, every single day, then reconnect it so it does its thing during the night.

It has now arrived and I will be fitting it this PM.

So rest assured the hosepipe will no longer be required, i.e. it's gonna start raining. hehe

Don't worry I'd booked a long weekend off from work (this coming weekend) so it was always guaranteed to rain, and sure as night follows day, the forecast is heavy thundery showers and blustery winds, and then returns to normal for July next week just in time for me to go back to the office.

Definitely not complaining!
I loathe winter and dark evenings, the only advantage is the kids believe it’s actually bedtime once the nights get darker.

Nope. I would take 12 months of this. The hotter the better. And that’s coming from a hayfever sufferer.

This year isn't a patch on the sunshine we had last summer. That was great.

I do have some sympathy for the OP
I have hay fever and I found a change of brand worked wonders for me
As regards the garden we use a washing up bowl. The bowl is regularly tipped into a tub outside and the water used on the garden most evenings. Particularly round the trees we have but a lot is used via a spray on the lawn

Wont have to worry about hayfever after a year without rain.

Everything is moist and verdant where I'm at.

It's definitely been excessively humid a few days and that's by far my least favourite weather condition.

Surely the Wimbledon finals are always at the weekend, so you were always off school?

Summer Holidays have been 6 weeks in my memory, always starting mid July, so this year is same as most. The thing that is annoying me is that my eldest daughter's school has a half day on Monday 22nd before they break up, whereas everyone else is on the (much more sensible) Friday.

Standardising school holidays nationwide would be an utter nightmare for the holiday industry. It's bad enough as it is now!

I like heat unconditionally as long as I have access to (a) a pool, (b) the sea or (c) air con.

It's more challenging when I'm working at home, running around the City in a suit or trying to actually sleep.

Son breaks up this Friday lunchtime (local secondary) - daughter breaks up Wednesday afternoon next week (local primary). How messed up is that?

Are you sure? in the 80s and 90s our state school (England) was always around the 3rd week of July.
Many private schools finish earlier.

The problem with standardising school holidays is it further intensifies the capacity available and increases prices.

In other countries they split the country into 4/5 large regions and try to balance holidays to reduce pressure on travel, holiday capacity, etc

Perhaps I should have stated Womens final though I think your reply would have been the same
There was only one year when I can recall when I was not off school for the Womens final
The womens final used to be played on a FRIDAY the mens on a Saturday

I suspect you are a few years younger than myself and have grown up with weekend finals.
In 1977 Virginia Wade (British) won the womens championship. It was jubilee year. I remember watching it on the TV at home alone as my parents worked.
Virginia wade wasn't expected to win it she was considered past her prime. She did win.

Her victory was the headline in all the papers the next day Saturday I remember clearly one journalist's last paragraph that she had won it for England for women and many people were proud of her. It also carried over into the Sunday papers
No offence but I'm actually quite intelligent with a good memory. but I also checked to see I was correct in case memory played tricks.
1978 was the only time I didn't break up mid week I worked part time and put myself down for some extra hours at the supermarket. I put the wrong dates down but wagged the Mon/ Tues/Wednesday off.

When we started school the next term our new Year Head a Mr Parsons went round all the classes and those who had been off the last day (Wednesday) of the term before summer were to be disciplined. I remember my mate Paul saying something like your in the st you wagged all 3 days off.
Mr parsons duly asked me where I had been and I said I was ill all 3 days he replied oh ok that's fine My mate Paul was gobsmacked.

I do think if your daughter is going into school just for a half day Monday its a total farce.

I think what happened in the 80s was that the school year and your holidays were changed. My experiences were from the late 60s to late 70s
It was different then. We had a longer time off.
The reason I cite Wimbledon is that (a) I remember it where I watched it and (b) the Wimbledon dates are verifiable.
