Which is the big night out now?
Discussion
Friday or Saturday?
Back in the day it was always Saturday night but I know things change.
And what do people in their early 20s actually do?
The big destination “Discos” have pretty much gone where you made your move on an unsuspecting female as a slow number played.
Just wondering really?

Friday generally seems busier than Saturday when I go out to town these days.
You're right, I don't see many discos around this way, usually its just bars that have a DJ or music playing, and a kind of informal dance floor comes up if its that type of night.
My personal view is too many night clubs have absolutely no idea who their target audience is and appear to constantly fYou're right, I don't see many discos around this way, usually its just bars that have a DJ or music playing, and a kind of informal dance floor comes up if its that type of night.
k up the basics.Go to the club on Friday and it's dead, go Saturday and it's far busier with a mix of 18-30 but still only 3 maybe 4 bar staff so you're standing 3-4 deep waiting for ages.
Meanwhile the dj thinks he his performing at your grans birthday belting out 70-80s crap followed by a Rhianna album... I really do mean several tracks from the same artist one after another . Then it's Radio 1 daytime playlist followed by more cheese, build me up buttercup an dilila etc.
The worst bit is the resident dj who is awful gets the big room/dance floor meanwhile the guest dj who is far far better at judging what gets people on the dance floor is crammed into a pokey room.
What's worse is there are now only 2 late night bars left in the town and fewer places for pre club drinks so the whole going out in town plan begins to fail before it's started.
Guessing this why so many people sit at home online all night.

Was about to say the same. In London it's Thursday nights everyone goes and gets hammered then gets paid to feel like death on a Friday! Some logic in that I must admit.
I noticed that when I worked down there too. Wednesday was also quite big for us, as generally we worked in London Monday to Thursday and then from home on Friday.Friday for the boys, Saturday for the partners. We did have a last Wednesday of the month in a town near me. Named "nurses night" as it was pay day for the NHS staff. It was normally a bunch of desperate blokes (sausage fest), me included, huddled around a dance floor watching 2 or 3 woman and no actual nurses out. The local bars were great at promoting this night though, great way to boost numbers on a quiet week night.
When I worked in Edinburgh, it was always:
Thirsty Thursday with people from work.
Friday morning in work with a hangover and a bacon roll. Friday night with mates straight from work.
Saturday night, generally dinner with the GF or an all day session watching sport in the pub.
Friday or Sat the biggest nights though.

Saturday - Black Orchid.
Probably the most overrated club ever, add in someone had to drive or you got a taxi to get out there to go in a bog standard 'first leisure' nightclub. Some myth used to go around that footballers went there, so what, who cares.Progress in Derby, that was a club.

You've been to one of my Discos, then!
Rarely do any clubs these days but plenty of celebration dos and what strikes me as odd is just how popular all that crap actually is. I've recently done a few 18th birthdays, a 21st and a couple of engagement dos. I've set up a playlist of the sort of stuff I know this age group is into (with the help of my kids - 20 and 24 (odd names but they're good kids) ). But it's not until I stick on a bit of YMCA or whatever that the party gets going.
I did a school prom the other week. The teacher sent over a list of songs that the kids said they'd like played and I jokingly asked if the teachers had made the list as it was all 70s, 80s and 90s stuff.
As for clubs, the problem you have is that the clientele has changed. My lad used work in a club/bar and you'd have everyone from 18 year olds up to older middle-aged divorcee women and blokes of a similar age.
Chelmsford has a reasonably good nightlife scene with plenty of bars and clubs, the most popular of which is Popworld which is all 70s and 80s.
Due to the students the town is pretty busy week nights but I couldn't tell you which is the bigger night. I very rarely go to the clubs in my town now, as I’m the wrong side of 35 in a student town I do feel a little old at times plus modern dance music in these places is pretty poor. The problem is finding somewhere for a drink post 11am as often not ready to go home.
I do however still go to “proper” clubs from time to time, a favorite being Printworks in Surrey Quay for a techno (or similar) night with the best part being they finish at 2am which is a reasonable time as I can’t do 6am anymore. I’ll be there for Jeff Mills & Ben Klock this bank holiday weekend.
