Not a friend, but an acquaintance (someone whom when I've been out has been there with other friends) is asking for a £30 sub today. I said yes because (1) £30 isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things (2) if I can help someone I will and (3) if they don't pay back, then £30 is worth it as a test.

The curveball is that I text back saying yes, but not until I get home in around 90 minutes, as I have a new Google Pixel phone and I've not downloaded any of the banking apps yet and I need the account numbers/codes/whatever.

The reply from the acquaintance was: "Oh you're joking."

So what would you do? biggrin

I wouldn’t give an acquaintance anything. They e probably borrowed from people they know and have exhausted that option hence they’ve asked you.
I’d just ignore their message

I think the ‘person in genuine need’ argument was exhausted when he expressed frustration at having to wait 90 mins

Honestly why don’t you give £30 to me. I’ll be really grateful and appreciative unlike this punk

Or as Mumsnet would say ‘Cheeky fker’ or more likely CF

I'm a sucker, I lend people money.
It is very rare to get it back in full or as agreed.
I just ask for it back as is (no interest or extras), usually a year to pay back, never huge sums but enough to give me the hump and realise people can be sts.

So stop doing it- what’s the point
This one has already made his position as a prick known before you’ve handed over cash!

My enquiries with people who know her better, suggest that this is closer to the truth than we are speculating! biggrin

Is £30 an ordering unit of dabbly powder?

Now blocked.

No. Surely standard reponse should be, 'work harder'.

Any chance of £50 until I get paid at the end of the month?

Sounds like she's only approached you because she knows nobody closer in her family/friends group would.

There was a thread on here a while ago documenting mine and others’ challenges getting money back from friends when lent.

Mine was a few grand back from a former female friend - was a bit of a rollercoaster!

I wouldn’t be lending this one here. She will pipes pay the £30 back easily and then come back for a bigger sum and you’ll oblige and then effectively kiss it goodbye

She's OK (size 10-12 maybe?), but has a seriously annoying voice/demeanour. I did think: "No man could tolerate you unless he was deaf.."
