Sorry if this has been asked before. I don’t use eBay much so I’m not familiar with all the ins and outs.

I sold a fridge the other day. I advertised it as PayPal only and buyer collect.

I had no contact from the buyer for 24 hours and they then told me they would be round on Saturday with cash.

Now, it’s not a lot of money but it seems odd that they can’t just send payment via PayPal. Am I being overly cautious by insisting they pay in accordance with my advert?

I now haven’t heard from the buyer for another 24 hours after politely asking for PayPal payment and I’m starting to think this is a waste of time. How long do I have to give them to pay and collect before I can relist it?

Pretty normal TBH.

I normally prefer cash if someone is collecting.

It's money in your hand and you don't get charged the paypal fees.

If you're concerned about them trying to claim they never got the item then just right out two receipts for you both to sign.

I would only take cash on collected items, saves the fee but more importantly stops them claiming back via PayPal after for non delivery. They are offering to make the transaction safer for you so why wouldn’t you take cash?

Not sure about the time to re-list, but I thought advice was never to accept payment by Paypal and have the buyer collect. Reason being, they can collect the item, then claim they never received it and get the money refunded by Paypal leaving the seller out of pocket and without the item, or any proof of delivery.

So - if buyer is collecting, advice is to accept cash only.
Paypal only when items are delivered and there is proof of delivery.

Why would you want PayPal over actual cash? Take the money and enjoy knowing you wont get a charge back levelled at you for no delivery in months time.

PayPal payment up front guarantees the buyer will actually turn up. Cash on collection, a lot of the time the buyer just disappears and you waste your time waiting / chasing

That’s interesting to know, thanks. I’ll make sure I prepare a receipt when it is collected.

It also guarantees you don't have a leg to stand on if they decide to scam you.

I would never, ever accept Paypal for something collected in person. There's no proof of anything.
