My son's 21st is coming up in the next few weeks, and I have no idea what to get him. He's into gaming and some TV like Walking Dead - and that's it. Not jewellery/watches, cars, clothes, travel... I'd like to get him something more meaningful than a new graphics card!

Budget up to £500 if needed but it doesn't need to be expensive, just... well, you know. No real family heirlooms to pass on.

Go for it - I am prepared for the piss taking but could really use some ideas!

An experience. Go do something together. You've a decent budget for an awesome day out.

My parents got me a shirt and a tie for my 21st. Can't tell you how pissed off I was.

Good job! He has an Apple Watch he rarely wears, which I bought him last year. The other, let's just say neither are his "thing".

Very. I have no idea though, any suggestions? I'd take him to ComiCon if it were possible to get tickets.

Is he likely to become in to watches later? I still have the omega i got on my 18th. I'm now very in to watches.

Failing that are there any gamescoms or comiccons anywhere out of the country you could go and spend some father son time at? I'd love to be able spend more time with my dad and most sons are the same.

Get him something that is an experience, something he'll remember - don't buy him 'stuff'. The odds of it being perfect are slim, the odds of it ending up on eBay are high.

Buy him some flying, heli or glider lessons or something - I'd have loved that at his age.

Nice. Any ideas (not for the shirt and tie)? I know if I asked him where he'd like to go he'd make some noise like "meh" or "I don't know", so it would need to be a surprise. Only other thought is that he's going to be back at Uni at that point so ideally needs to be an actual gift.

Two easy jet tix to Amsterdam for him & a mate + a youth hostel for the weekend. Force him out into the world & make him choose between coke & hookers or Anne Frank's loft conversion & a tulip festival.

I'm sure you can come up with some ideas along the lines of Quad Biking or Coasteering?

Where is Uni?

He's not particularly physical (by preference and medical issues). Uni is on the south coast.

Zombie thing sounds good! I'd still like to give him something to open on the day though.

You've alluded to it a couple of times, but not spelt it out. Is he gay? If so, it might make a big difference to what people suggest you can do together.
