Reminds me of the Woody Allen piece "The we of Mensa"

"For $50 she'd discuss Nietsche for 30 minutes, for $100 she'd give you a detailed critique of Kierkegaard"

Have you been on dating websites by any chance and seen people classifying themselves as such?

As if they don't have to actually physically fancy the person or even care what gender they are as long as they had the right brain. What a load of pretentious crap.

Think I've probably already had a rant about it here.

Can you imagine being with someone like that? They'd just want you as brain candy, You would need to spend all day being clever otherwise you'd be letting yourself go.

I've certainly grown attracted to someone who I wasn't immediately physically interested in, after talking to them for a while. That is no different to an attraction based on any other element of their persona e.g. intellect. Them being of the opposite sex, I would say this is quite common. To not only give this it's own classification, but for that to then supersede any other predilection whether you're straight, LGBT or Q, us utterly preposterous.

Smiler.

It's not that strange and while you now know the term, it doesn't make it 'new'.

Women have always sought after a man who they perceive will provide best for their children's genetically and care. Some gravitate towards appearance, wanting beautiful kids, others want to see a man who can clearly provide, others see intelligent men as being safe bets for looking after them. Some want all these attributes in a partner. Most compromise wink

Many years ago I had a conversation aged ~20 with a friend about what the one deal-breaker would be for a potential partner.

His was "I wouldn't go out with someone stupid". So I guess that's him.

Just has to have a name now, doesn't it.

My issue is that it is an option when selecting your sexuality on dating websites, as if it takes precedent over attraction to the same or opposite sex, which really implies that you don't mind who you do it with as long as they're intelligent enough, which would simply be bisexual, much like me stating my sexuality as 'blondes'

Apparently it was coined in the late 90s by some guy on a blogging page who was trying to describe his attractions.

Mark Ronson got involved with a discussion about it backstage on one of the morning chat shows, had never heard the term before but felt it described his attractions.

If you are attracted to both sexes or genders then I think that is bisexuality (or pansexuality) and the rest is window dressing.
