Hello Gents,

This is a one-off of something that's new to me and putting it on here is probably a long shot but here goes.

I'm looking to get this...

...from St.Neots in Cambs to Marple Bridge near Stockport..

It's an eBay deal and the seller says he'll strip out the gear for collection for a mutually
convenient time.

It's an Astra interior (cabriolet) and consists of these things.
2 front seats
2 front door cards
1 rear seat base and backrest
2 rear seat side trims.

So far I've asked DX how to get a quote from them and will look at what Herpes has to say.

Obviously, I'm happy to pay for empty van/truck space and I suppose the less packaging the better.

So I'm wondering how best to achieve this, preferably without paying the earth. The only potential snag is that the Marple address is about 200yds down a narrow, cobbled road and a van can't turn round at the end.

Ok, any experiences, suggestions, caveats or anything would help. And flame away, I know you will!

Ta, D

I’ve had Mondeo ST front and back seats, doorcards and trim in the back of a Mondeo in the past if you can borrow a similar size car and do it yourself.

Tried Shiply?

I purchased Leon Cupra interior to go in my Leon FR once,

I stripped my FR before settings off, when I turned up but the Cupra interior straight into the car (15-20 mins to do) then put the Cupra driver seat in the back with rear seats folded, swapped the driver seat over when I got home.

This would be the easiest and possibly quickest method.

I’ve done it too, I bought an entire Focus ST170 interior and managed to fit it into the back of my MK1 Focus, as arranging delivery was a hassle. Plus we had it picked up and fitted within a day.

I fitted a complete leather interior for a Vauxhall Carlton in a MKII VW Polo Coupe S

That was - Front Seats, Rear bench and split fold back, four door cards, 4 headrests, a centre console plus a load area cover and side mounts.

Hire a hatch back car and go get it

Shiply.

You will get crazy quotes to start with but give it 12 hours and you should get some decent quotes.

Take the rear and passenger seats out of your Astra, drive down, plonk the new ones in the car, drive home, fit them properly.

Which is fine but in time and fuel its going to cost him more than Shiply I would have thought.

You think

A courier is going to accept loose and unwrapped car interior parts

A courier is going to find replacements if they are damaged

This is definitely one of those go fetch it situations IMO

Exactly - easy couple of hours there, load up and find a cuppa and have a break, cruise home...

Great but there are issues.

I don't live where the interior is going so this adds 180 miles to the trip.

So far, the seller will remove the parts and amass them ready to collect
at his workplace with a quick visual check and cash on collection if possible.
All well and good but he can't pack and label them. Equally, I can't measure
with 100% accuracy and I can't weigh the parts.

My implanted painkilling device (spinal cord stimulator) went End of Service
on me five weeks ago (it'd run 8 years) and I'm waiting on the NHS
to replace it, in the 'reasonably near future' so a long trip is off the cards.

I've measured up my car's bits and the full set is this:-

2x front seats
1x rear seat base and backrest
2x rear seat side trims
2x door cards.
1x heated seat control panel inc switches.

So here's the ask, albeit a biggie.

Does a PH-er from the St. Neots area fancy a job, picking up the interior
and dropping it near Stockport?

I'll pay the going rate for fuel/time/touble and I make it 143 miles each way (says Google maps).

The seller wants a deposit before stripping the parts
but once the parts are 'in the can' (or the van) there's
no major rush.

If I miss this gear it'd be a heigh ho, there'll be others
but see the pics above and the price is good.

The floor is yours gents.

Is this charitable PHer going to be held responsible for conducting the visual check too?

Buying something sight unseen and relying entirely on the kindness of stranfers sounds like a bit of a can o' worms to me.

Good point theoretically but it isn't charitable, I said I'll pay the going rate
the hire a driver/collector. It's the same as if I was using a courier
but as I said, there are things in the way.

What you are seeing at the top is the vendor's pictures. I've taken these and tweaked them
so I have a perfectly clear view of what's what. There's some failed stitching on the offside front
seat bolster but this is fixable and the rest looks excellent.

All a visi check would involve is to look for clear bodges, wounds and missing bits.
Were I the vendor, I'd insist too.

Sorry, I know it's not charitable, per se.smile

My point about the visual check wasn't so much about what the vendor would expect as it was about what you think you are buying.

Where does the liability lie if you receive something which wasn't as good as you expected?

Have you looked in a newsagent window in your local town?

Sure I've seen adverts for a "man with a van" before which might be a cheaper option than a delivery firm?

OK, I've bought any amount of stuff sight unseen on eBay and I'm sure you have too.

I've also been looking at leathers for Astras and there's a ton of crap on there, for a lot more than this guy's price. I've received several detailed replies to my queries about this interior and this is part of the reason for my concluding he sounds like an honest broker.

The other part is the pics. he's been honest enough to photograph the unstitched bolster in detail and I've seen far, far worse. His car also looks like it's been looked after, even the Irmscher wheel badge shows a degree of pride.

I can see enough of the seats to know they're like he says, 'Condition is pretty good no nasty holes or major damage.'

Like any eBay purchase, it's a gamble and we all know that. I's sure a PH-er would be able to conclude it's an utter dog and let me know. I certainly wouldn't shovel liability on anyone...I ain't council.

Thanks for your concern.

How much is the going rate?

£80 in fuel, depending on the van. 6 hours driving (at least), plus 1 hour either end to load/unload. £15 an hour. You're looking at £200 before it's worth anyone's time. No idea how much an Astra interior is worth, but could you not find something closer?

I have used them (shiply) before and the back of their vans are basically stacked to the roof with sh*t. Tables, chairs, kids toys, wheels, tools, car parts etc etc. All the stuff DPD etal would not touch.

The prices can be reasonable, 4 wheels, 200 miles £60. It would cost me that in fuel alone.
